Bring fitness indoors.

During the winter you may not be able to exercise outside, but there are many ways to stay active and warm. You can walk indoors and count your steps, take a fitness class at a gym, join a dance class, lift weights, work out to a video at home, or even just dance. Itโ€™s important to find something that you enjoy, you will be more likely to stick with exercise thatโ€™s fun to you.


Get proper sleep

Sleep fuels many mechanisms of your body. Proper and enough sleep is the root of recovery. It improves the immune system which strengthens its ability to fight against the common fever and other illnesses. Limit your screen time and caffeine consumption, especially at night, to maintain a proper sleep schedule and have a deep sleep.

Q โ€“ What exercise is best in winter?

A: Walking and running. Walking and running are the easiest of the outdoor exercises to keep up during the cold winter months as they don't really require much in the way of extra gear or certain conditions. As long as it's not too cold, you can pretty much put on your shoes and, with some extra preparation, hit the road.


Winter can be a challenging time for people with asthma. Cold and flu viruses can trigger asthma attacks; dry air or smoke from the fireplace can irritate airways.

Try to avoid known triggers if you can. Keep taking your asthma medication, even if you are feeling well. See your doctor in the winter months if you feel your asthma is not under good control.


Drink plenty of fluids

Don't forget about hydration during the winter months, it's just as important during cold weather as it is in the heat. Drink water or sports drinks before, during and after your workout, even if you're not thirsty.

You can become dehydrated in the cold from sweating, breathing, the drying power of the winter wind and increased urine production, but it may be harder to notice during cold weather. Stay hydrated!
