having fun while Queueing for their share of the day.
We have not stopped feeding the children. our Leaders are busy daily attending to the food needs of the children.
The feeding of the children has begun. starting with those critically affected. This started Thursday 14 January 2021. We hope to move to provide soap for the adversely affected children and a few other accessories. At least for now they are getting a meal a day.
Heavy rains have caused flooding and destruction of homes in Mount Hampden worsening the already difficult situation on the ground.
The situation has driven some of the kids to sleep in the Chinese brick burning Oven. The flooding has left homes with no roofs, no blankets, no firewood for cooking, basically no food. A concerted effort is needed in the community to help the stranded families though the bulk of them have not been spared. The corona virus pandemic induced lockdown means most of the services are not accessible. We are running around to organize some food for the children while the men are hopefully busy trying to help restore the houses and the fallen roofs.. The sad part is some of the kids were asking when we would open Saturday program because they didn't have anything to eat for the past few days. (the usual feeding program was suspended as one of the measures to stop the spread of the corona virus in the area.) a new way of feeding is being mooted where kids come to the makeshift kitchen with a plate. Get some food and go eat. Soon as the logistical challenges being faced are overcome this should begin in earnest.
Some of the kids have not taken a bath in over a week because they don't have soap and towels. Efforts are being made to organize soap. With a view to helping the ladies start a soap making project. A mask making project needs to start again. And culture of washing hands at all times. Social distancing is hard due to the crowding. But if they can wear masks that should help.
Sleeping in the bricks oven has respiratory concerns as its filled with soot and strong smells.
Step by step.

The kids program past few weeks
During the week its school lessons, and home visits. Saturdays its fun time with continual reminders to social distance, washing of hands and etc. still not enough masks to go round but efforts continue unabated.
welcome to images of our kids program during the covid lockdown. from making masks, home visits to assess impact of covid, school lessons (this group does not have access to E-learning) sharing food, having fun games, learning about covid and its impact.. leaders standing with their small hampers, washable masks and sanitisers to help them with their work with the children. we are in the process of trying to raise new resources for more masks to be made, books to be purchased, handouts to be photocopied, stationery and lastly we need to resume our feeding as a lot of them are failing to have a single decent meal per day.
