#CHILONGA: The government has amended Statutory Instrument 50 of 2021 gazetting 12,940 hectares of land for lucerne growing in Chilonga communal lands in Chiredzi.
Court grants an interim relief barring the arbitrary eviction of Chilonga villagers in Chiredzi. The evictions contravene section 74 of Constitution.
Professor Lovemore Madhuku blames the government's decision to displace the Shangani people from their lands in Chiredzi to pave way for foreign owned Dendairy to produce lucern grass which according to the Shangani is not going to benefit them. It will be the fourth time this this group has been displaced.

Madhuku Tells Mnangagwa To Abandon Colonial Mentality ⋆ Pindula News Professor Lovemore Madhuku said that Statutory Instrument 50 of 2021 is unlawful and unconstitutional and reflect a "colonial mentality".
Villagers in Chiredzi are not happy with the government's decision to evict them for Kwekwe based Dendiary's grass project (lucern). This comes after the government has gazetted Statutory Instrument 50 of 2021 which approves the eviction of over 1 000 families from the Sengwe Communal lands in Chiredzi district. They say that the ZANU PF Party led government and politicians in this area have failed to deliver on their promises during the election campaigns like protection, construction of Runde bridge (which claims lives of many people every year when it floods), good roads, hospitals etc. In an interview with ZBC National FM last year (2020), Chiredzi South ZANU PF Member of Parliament Calisto Gwanetsa said that plans for the construction of this bridge were underway. However, all the representatives of the house of assembly in Chiredzi are not defending their people and they have remained silent on the displacement. Khesani (not her name) says that there is need for the government to do a proper consultation before making decisions that go against the principles of democracy. Minority groups like Shangani/VaTsonga have had no voice to represent themselves in government and other decision making processes.

Chiredzi District Schools Inspector Otilia Njitimani dies at Hippo Valley Medical Centre in Chiredzi. She dies at 51, the cause of the death is not very clear but she was complaining about chest pains. However, this is a great loss to the district and the media industry in the area is robbed of a very reliable source of information. Meanwhile, the Lowveld Media Trust is posthumously working on a video story where Njitimani was talking about 'school dropouts' in the district in an interview with Passmore Ndlovu in 2017. The audio version of the same story was originally published on Free Press Unlimited's Mobile Community Zimbabwe project: https://soundcloud.com/.../chiredzi-school-dropouts-by.... Also visit our YouTube channel to watch some of the interviews we had with the late at some district events like the Great Limpopo Cultural Trade Fair which was one of her favorite festivals.
