(1) Water tank is elevated to facilitate pressure from the effect of gravity. The higher the tank stand the more pressure that can be gained. All water points including the showers receive water uniformily with good pressure(You won't need a booster pump for pressure)

(2) Tank stands elevate water tanks out of reach. This makes it difficult for vandals (people) to tamper with water purity and/or the tank in general

(3) You can utilize space below the tank stand( either steel or concrete stand- storage room) for other purposes if your space is limited
