In the spirit of synodality, the St Annes guild from the Diocese of Gweru visited the seminary today. Fr Ceaser Muchingami as their spiritual director accompanied them
together with Fr Marko Mudzingwa who is the spiritual director of Mazowe pre-major Seminary. From the abundance of their hearts they brought some groceries for the sustainece of the seminary. So as the Chishawasha Seminary community we are grateful for the love they continue to show us through their annual visits. We thank the Lord each time we think of them and when we pray for them we pray with joy.

*Farewell to a Father of Fathers*
The Seminary Community bids Fr Andrews farewell tonight in a Wake Mass celebrated by Archbishop Robert Ndlovu & Bishop Raphael Ncube, and concelebrated by many priests. It is fitting that his Wake was done in Chishawasha, a place which formed a large part of his life as a priest, lecturer, formator and spiritual director to many many streams and classes of seminarians over the years. In his homily, Fr Mahlahla eulogized a great man who walked among priests and religious in the Catholic Church of Zimbabwe and that he was a man of great humour.
Go well,Fr Thekkekara. You fought the good fight, may God give you the Crown of unfading glory!

COMMUNITY DAY
****The Holy Mass****
The celebration of the Holy Eucharist was the first order of the day on this wonderful occasion. Even more fitting were the readings, which spoke of Love. Reflecting on them, the Rector,Fr Joseph Mugara, spoke of how Love is the cornerstone of Community. The Trinity is the perfect model of Community because it is a Community of Love - Love of Father and Son in the Holy Spirit (both fruit and fire of that Love). He therefore called on the seminary community to emulate the Trinitarian model, and manifest the quality of Love and all it's aspects in it's daily living.

EASTER TRIDUUM (III)

Christ is Risen,alleluia!!!

16/04/2022

EASTER TRIDUUM (III)

Extract from an ancient homily on Holy Saturday (from the Office of Readings for Holy Saturday)

What is happening? Today there is a great silence over the earth, a great silence, and stillness, a great silence because the King sleeps; the earth was in terror and was still, because God slept in the flesh and raised up those who were sleeping from the ages. God has died in the flesh, and the underworld has trembled.
Truly he goes to seek out our first parent like a lost sheep; he wishes to visit those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death. He goes to free the prisoner Adam and his fellow-prisoner Eve from their pains, he who is God, and Adam's son.
The Lord goes in to them holding his victorious weapon, his cross. When Adam, the first created man, sees him, he strikes his breast in terror and calls out to all: 'My Lord be with you all.' And Christ in reply says to Adam: ‘And with your spirit.’ And grasping his hand he raises him up, saying: ‘Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.
‘I am your God, who for your sake became your son, who for you and your descendants now speak and command with authority those in prison: Come forth, and those in darkness: Have light, and those who sleep: Rise.
‘I command you: Awake, sleeper, I have not made you to be held a prisoner in the underworld. Arise from the dead; I am the life of the dead. Arise, O man, work of my hands, arise, you who were fashioned in my image. Rise, let us go hence; for you in me and I in you, together we are one undivided person.
‘For you, I your God became your son; for you, I the Master took on your form; that of slave; for you, I who am above the heavens came on earth and under the earth; for you, man, I became as a man without help, free among the dead; for you, who left a garden, I was handed over to Jews from a garden and crucified in a garden.

EASTER TRIDUUM (II)

Later....

Good Friday Service of the Lord's Passion✝️✝️✝️🙏
Day 2 of the Triduum was commemorated in a solemn manner, recalling the Passion and Death of our Lord. On Good Friday,no Mass is said everywhere in the world, and the Rites of the Service express the attitude of a Church in mourning, grief, and sorrow. The Red symbolizes the Blood shed on this very day by the Lamb, the bare Church and the scanty decorations give it a Tomb-like atmosphere, anticipating how, after this Death of the Son of God,He is going to be buried in the Sepulchre and "Descend into Hell".

THE EASTER TRIDUUM (I)
It is that time of the year in a Christian's life, where we enter into the mysteries of Christ's Passion,Death and Resurrection. Tonight marks the end of Lent and the beginning of the Easter Triduum (from Latin meaning 3 days). This evening the Seminary Community celebrated the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper, which was a celebration of the Institution of the Sacraments of the Eucharist and the Priesthood.

Wishing you all a Blessed Triduum of 2022. May this commemoration draw us ever closer to the Author of our Salvation - The Priest, the Altar, and the Sacrifice🙏🙏🙏

Today the Church celebrates the institution of the sacrament of Priesthood. Happy Feast day to all priests.

CHISHAWASHA SEMINARY CELEBRATES PALM SUNDAY.
Today the seminary joined the rest of the Christian world in commemorating Palm Sunday, which calls to mind our Lord's Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem, riding on a donkey. This event also marks the beginning of Holy Week, which contains the Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday,Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday).

The faithful of surrounding areas joined the Seminary Community. This is the first combined Palm Sunday Celebration since pandemic ravaged the world, and the people of God celebrate with Joy in their hearts, for being able to meet up for great seasons like these.
Have a blessed Holy Week

THE MADNESS OF THE CATHOLIC PRIESTHOOD.
WRITTEN BY:
OCHENDO (fcbook [email protected] Emmanuel)

Any priesthood today worth its salt has to be a priesthood of madness.
Yes! Madness. I call it Madness.

The priest is to serve the cause of full human development. He has to face all present challenges and problems with the people, the financial crisis, economic inequality, poverty, corruption, worker's rights, unbalanced development, etc. Is that not madness?

Fr Pedro zafra, a 31 year old priest from spain serving in the Ukrainian capital refused to be evacuated . He decided to stay with his parishioners and not leave the country. According to him, he found the answer to stay in a prayer with a passage from the gospel which spoke of the mission and the support of God's grace to carry it forward. Why would a healthy intelligent 31year old priest choose to die in a war he didn't start? Is it not madness?

What is an intelligent priest like Fr Kelvin Ugwu MSP who graduated with first class doing in a remote village in Malawi? Is that not madness?

Two salesian priests who left the comfort of their country, fr Ferdnandez and Fr. Fernando Hernàndez were murdered in Burkina Faso as they discharged their Priestly duties. Can you imagine? Is that not madness?

Fr Maximilian Maria volunteered to die in place of a man named Franciszek Gajowniczek in the German death camp of Auschwitz, located in German-occupied Poland during World War II. After 14 days of being confined in a prison cell without food or water Kolbe was murdered by SS guards. is that not madness?

A Nigerian priest working in Cameroon,Fr Fidelis Nnetui HFFBY tells the story of how sometimes During mass, every one will take cover and lie flat on the ground to avoid stray bullets because there is a heavy gun battle nearby. Why can't he just return home? Is that not madness?

I once visited a very intelligent priest working in Benin Archdiocese. His place of assignment was like the end of the world. There was no electricity. The only borne hole water in that village was established by the priest through help of friends. As early as 5am on Sunday, I accompanied him to mass to various outstations. He was riding a bike through a tiny path in a thick forest. My fear was visible when I saw wild monkeys jumping from tree to tree as we drove bye.

We arrived at a small farm settlement and he celebrated mass for about 20 persons under a tree. Then we drove off again to another settlement and then to another before we went all the way back to his main base and he celebrated mass for them too. So With all his academic achievements, this priest is committed to jungle life? Is that not madness?

I encountered a priest with three doctored degrees who was posted in a remote farm settlements where all his academic qualifications meant nothing and yet he's happily discharging his duties. Is that not madness?

When you go to remote Villages with no electricity or basic social aminities , you will always see a Catholic priest. Is that not madness?

In water locked areas where one can assess them only through boats, you will see Catholic Priests. Is that not madness? In war torn countries, you will see Catholic Priests among civilians and the military sacrificing their lives. Is that not madness?.

Catholic priests are quietly and faithfully carrying out their priestly ministry to the best of their ability. Many priests are living heroic lives. They are not seeking recognition. They base their lives on prayer and faith. They trust in God. And they have a deep and genuine concern for the people. They find Christ in their people as well as in their personal prayer. They have at a deep level appropriated the ideal set forth in the 10th chapter of John’s Gospel: “The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep.”

You see eh,every priest of today is forced to choose whether he wants to give himself to the real Christ, who embraced poverty, including the poverty of the commonplace, rejection, misrepresentation of the real Christ of the Gospel, or whether, with the mistaken throngs of Jesus’ time, he wants an earthly, worldly messiah for whom success follows upon success.

LET'S KEEP PRAYING FOR OUR PRIESTS.
