Alexander (1997) argues that there is room for improvement in the approaches to
disaster management based on the following three factors: (1) death tolls have not
fallen dramatically in response to improved mitigation; (2) large-scale transfer of
technology has not occurred and (3) disaster relief has not been adequately combined
with mitigation and economic development.
Therefore, Dynasty Disaster Management Trust proposes a

Top Safety Precautions During Rainy Season
Safety precautions during rainy season
#1. Avoid walking in the rain
Well, walking in the rain or jumping into pools of water seems to be fun, especially if you don't get a chance to enjoy this weather too often. However, this increases your chance of getting attacked by a host of bacteria, which can result in a number of viral diseases.
If you, unfortunately, step in a puddle, make sure to wash your foot with soap and put off wet socks or wet shoes to avoid all sorts of germs.
One of the top safety tips for the rainy season is wearing rubber boots.
#2. Equip yourself with an umbrella or a raincoat
Before going outside, make sure to check weather online to know what is likely to happen. It’s best to prepare well for the rain during this season. Who knows if a sudden rain can ruin our trip, right?
If a weather forecast says the chance of precipitation is 50% or above, then you should keep an umbrella and a raincoat handy to battle the rains this monsoon. This is one of the best safety precautions during rainy season that not only helps keep you from falling sick but also saves your belongings from getting wet.
We also highly recommend putting your belongings into a small plastic bag during the rainy season to prevent the rain from ruining them.

10 Essential Safety Precautions During Rainy Season
#3. Never touch electric wires
One of the most important safety tips for the rainy season is to stay away from live electric wires, especially the ones that have fallen off. They can cause injury or even death.
If you see these wires lying in a puddle of water, keep away from it as far as possible as you can possibly be electrocuted as wandering the area.
Besides, avoid parking your vehicle under power lines or next to utility poles and avoid touching electrical devices. Who knows if they are covered by some sort of shade and are exposed to water?
#4. Take precautions against bugs
When it comes to safety
#5. Drive slowly and carefully
No doubt, driving during the monsoon season is challenging even to experienced drivers. Given the fact that wet runways can be slippery, you should keep a safe distance with the car in front of you. One of the most important safety precautions during rainy season is avoid making any sudden turns and abrupt braking as well.
While driving into the rain, you also need to stay away from heavy vehicles and turn on your headlights so that your car is visible.

One of the impacts of climate change on rain-fed agriculture in the arid and semi-arid regions is the increasing frequency and magnitude of occurrence of dry spells. A dry spell is a period of 3 or more days of lack of rainfall during the wet season. A pentad dry spell is a dry spell of five days duration. Dry spells, apart from limiting soil moisture for plant use, pose serious threat to uptake of nutrients thereby affecting crop yield. Occurrence of dry spells during the growing season which cause deficiency of soil moisture therefore, poses the greatest threat to food security. Dry spell occurrence not only reduce the yield of crops but have in many case lead to complete loss during extended period of occurrence, leading to drought.

The Technical Advisory Group on SARS-CoV-2 Virus Evolution (TAG-VE) is an independent group of experts that periodically monitors and evaluates the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 and assesses if specific mutations and combinations of mutations alter the behaviour of the virus. The TAG-VE was convened on 26 November 2021 to assess the SARS-CoV-2 variant: B.1.1.529.
The B.1.1.529 variant was first reported to WHO from South Africa on 24 November 2021. The epidemiological situation in South Africa has been characterized by three distinct peaks in reported cases, the latest of which was predominantly the Delta variant. In recent weeks, infections have increased steeply, coinciding with the detection of B.1.1.529 variant. The first known confirmed B.1.1.529 infection was from a specimen collected on 9 November 2021.
This variant has a large number of mutations, some of which are concerning. Preliminary evidence suggests an increased risk of reinfection with this variant, as compared to other VOCs. The number of cases of this variant appears to be increasing in almost all provinces in South Africa. Current SARS-CoV-2 PCR diagnostics continue to detect this variant. Several labs have indicated that for one widely used PCR test, one of the three target genes is not detected (called S gene dropout or S gene target failure) and this test can therefore be used as marker for this variant, pending sequencing confirmation. Using this approach, this variant has been detected at faster rates than previous surges in infection, suggesting that this variant may have a growth advantage.
There are a number of studies underway and the TAG-VE will continue to evaluate this variant. WHO will communicate new findings with Member States and to the public as needed.
Based on the evidence presented indicative of a detrimental change in COVID-19 epidemiology, the TAG-VE has advised WHO that this variant should be designated as a VOC, and the WHO has designated B.1.1.529 as a VOC, named Omicron.

Digital tools and artificial intelligence (AI) may help us to achieve the Global Goals, including health for all, but there are no guarantees that the benefits will affect everyone equally. Young people are the most digitally connected, making those online and engaged the most likely to benefit, but also the most vulnerable to the risks associated with giving up their data. Those who have historically experienced marginalization and discrimination are even more at risk. Meanwhile the young people who are not digitally connected, such as those living in rural areas or from lower income backgrounds, risk being left behind.
In this virtual event, hear from experts working in the field and share your thoughts on how to protect young people’s rights in the digital age. Drawing on experiences and case studies in health, our speakers and audience will answer questions such as:
How may the human rights of young people be threatened by the use of digital tools in key issues, such as health?
What are the needs and expectations of young people for digital tools and AI, and how

How to Avoid a Climate Disaster: The Solutions We Have and the Breakthroughs We Need is about all the steps we need to take to keep the planet livable for humans. We need to revolutionize our entire physical economy, including the way we move things around the planet, produce electricity, make things, grow food, and heat and cool our buildings.
That’s going to take a ton of innovation in both technology and policy. Which means young people need to play a special role. In my experience, they’re the ones with the most new ideas, and the most energy to pursue them.
Getting to zero emissions will be the hardest thing people have ever done. But I believe we can do it. I’m optimistic about what science and technology can accomplish, and even more important, I’m optimistic about what people can accomplish. If all of us—and especially today’s young people—apply their ingenuity to this problem, we can avoid a climate disaster.

*‘VACCINES EFFECTIVE AGAINST DELTA VARIANT’*
All the Covid-19 vaccines being administered in Zimbabwe under the mass inoculation programme are effective against the highly virulent Delta variant, experts have concluded.
In Zimbabwe, the Delta variant, which was first discovered in India, is responsible for over 79 percent of all coronavirus cases.
Studies show that the Delta strain spreads much faster and potentially triggers more severe illness in the unvaccinated compared with all other known variants.
A new study by the United States Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has shown that the Delta variant is as infectious as chicken pox and more transmissible than Ebola.
Zimbabwe is administering a basket of four vaccines — Sinopharm, Sinovac, Sputnik V and Covaxin — which were granted Emergency Use Authorisation by the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe (MCAZ) following rigorous examination.
Last week, MCAZ authorised the emergency use of Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine, taking to five the number of vaccines that have been cleared for use in the country.
As Zimbabwe grapples with a deadly third wave of the pandemic, experts say those who have been administered any of the four vaccines currently in use in the country were unlikely to develop severe illnesses.
Chief co-ordinator of the National Response to the Covid-19 pandemic in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Dr Agnes Mahomva, said the four vaccines were effective against the Delta variant.
“All the vaccines we have are doing exactly what we want them to do,” Dr Mahomva said.
“That is to reduce hospitalisation, death and transmission of Covid-19 and we are happy that the vaccines we have are doing that.”
A member of the Government’s Covid-19 Expert Advisory Committee, Dr Lincoln Chambari, said all the vaccines have been tested and have shown to be effective against all variants.
“The vaccines are effective against the Delta variant,” said Dr Chambari.

Eassy:wetlands
A wetland is a distinct ecosystem that is flooded by water either permanently or seasonally, where oxygen_free processes prevail.wetlands are different from other water bodies because it is characteristic vegetation of aquatic plants adapted to the unique hydric soil e.gwater weeds
They are three types of wetlands namely marshes, bogs, and fens.Marshes can also be caled swamps.A marsh is a wetland that is dominated by woody plants. They often be found at the edges of dams, lakes and streams where they form a transition between the aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem. They are dominated by grasses, rushes or weeds.Secondly a bog is a wetland that accumulates peat,a deposit of dead plant material often mosses and in a majority of cases, sphagnum moss,it is one of the three main wetlands. They are three types of bogs which are mire, mosses, quagmire and muskeg.Lastly on the types of wetlands there are fens .These are the main types of wetlands. The others being grass marshes, forested swamps and peaty bogs.Along with the bogs .They a kind of mire .Fens are mire trophic peatlands usually fed by mineral rich surface water or ground water.
wetlands are vital for us as a nation because it promotes tourism which is the biggest industry in terms of gaining foreign currency.wetlands also promote the issue of hydro electricity power and this will boost the economy .They provide habitat for aquatic life e.g fish and frogs.Wetlands are a source of water for wild animals and human beings as well. They promote fishing in Zimbabwe.Wetlands they prevent floods as well as to promote daming .They are also useful for growing water logged crops e.g rice .They can be used for film shooting or even photo shooting.wetlands can be used for recreational activities .Wetlands absorbs heavy rains and this will prevent flooding as I said before. They protect ground water since they neutralize surface pollutant.lastly they improve water quality by trapping

ESSAY
Areas of land that are flooded with water, either seasonally or permanently known as wetlands are valuable geographical spaces in Zimbabwe and the world at large. This is so because of various positive factors such as storing water, treating waste, crucial for biological productivity, water filtration to mention but a few. In Zimbabwe, Victoria falls, Cleveland, Chinhoyi caves, Lake Chivero, Driefontein Grasslands are some of the sites that have been designated as wetlands. As wetlands are of paramount importance, conservation of them becomes inevitable. Education and training about importance of wetlands, use of legislation, use of remaining wetlands sites wisely and accounting of the uses of wetlands and integrating them into land use plan are some of the ways to safeguard wetlands. More about the wetlands will be discussed as the essay progresses.
To commence with, a wetland can be described as an area filled with too much water either seasonally or permanently or a marshy place. There are two main types of wetlands that is, Inland wetland types including lakes, rivers, fens, floodplains, swamps and ponds marches. The second is the Coastal wetland comprising of estuaries, Mangroves, saltwater marshes and lagoons-even coral reefs. According to the Environmental Management Act(CAP 20:27) Wetlands are"Areas of marsh,fern,peat-land or water, whether natural or artificial, permanent or temporary, with water that is static or flowing, fresh, brackish or salt, including riparian and adjacent to the wetland." In Zimbabwe they are referred to as Matoro and mapani in Shona, Amaxhaphozi in Ndebele.
Moreso, wetlands are significant to humans, animals and vegetation. Wetlands help in storing water. They achieve this through intake of large amounts of water and slowly releasing it. This has made geographers to liken them to sponges. The process is crucial as it reduces flood heights, a
