The Constitution Defenders Forum notes with concern the decision to deny live media coverage of the Constitutional Court hearing in the matter brought by CDF Freedom Fighters Spokesperson Cde Reuben Zulu and others, challenging Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3.

A case of such profound constitutional and national importance demands maximum transparency, public scrutiny, and open access to information. Constitutional litigation is should not approached as merely a private dispute between parties, the matter concerns the sovereign rights of the people of Zimbabwe and the future of constitutional democracy itself.

Restricting broader public access to proceedings of this magnitude risks undermining public confidence in constitutional accountability and judicial openness. The people have a legitimate right to follow proceedings that directly affect their Constitution, their rights, and their democratic future.

The Constitution Defenders Forum formally submitted its detailed constitutional position to Parliament rejecting Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 in its entirety.

In our submission, CDF argues that the proposed amendments fundamentally undermine constitutional democracy, violate the sovereign will of the people expressed through the 2013 referendum, and seek to unlawfully alter protected constitutional structures without the requisite constitutional safeguards and referenda.
