What is pH?

pH is a measure of how acidic or how alkaline a solution is.

The pH of a solution depends on the degree of ionization of an acid or alkali as well as how concentrated or dilute it is .pH ranges from 1 to 14 with 1 being very strongly acidic and 14 being strongly alkaline. A pH of 7 is neutral

Any acid will have a pH of less than 7
Any alkali will have a pH of more than 7

1. Strong acids have a pH of 1 (red)
2. Weak acids have a pH of 3 to 4 (Orange)
3. Neutral its pH 7 (green)
4. A weak alkali (ammonia) has a pH of 11 12 (blue)
5. A strong alkali has a pH of 14(purple)

Neutralization
An acid is neutralized when it reacts with an alkali, a base a carbonate, or a metal. When neutralization is complete, there is no more acid left, the pH will be 7.

Procedure to follow when testing pH
1. Firstly, fill up a clean container with a test solution.
2. You will need to make sure that the solution level is deep enough to cover the test strip.
3. Deep one of the test strips into the container of your solution for a few seconds.
4. The test strip will change colour momentarily.
5. Once the strip has changed color, you will be able to find out the pH level basing on colour change.

NB. When making bleach you should archive pH colour of 11(purple)
All-purpose cleaners have a pH range between 6 and 8 eg dishwashing liquid

Here are the directions and the formula.

*For making 1(lit) Hand Sanitizer Gel*

Requirements:

-700ml Ethanol (alcohol)
-280ml Hydrogen peroxide 3%
-5g Glycerin
-10g Cellulose
-10g TEA

Directions:

1. Mix Cellulose with water and stir it at a high dispensation rate.

2. Add color/dye if you want.

3. Add Glycerin and continue mixing.

4. Add alcohol and continue mixing.

5. Add Hydrogen Peroxide and continue mixing.

6. Then add TEA and continue mixing
You may apply perfume if you want.
