PURSUING A CAREER IN RADIO OR TELEVISION JOURNALISM
Electronic media has plenty of opportunities to offer. You can choose to specialize in radio journalism, learning the art of retaining your listeners’ interest through your voice, or add a face to your story and as a television broadcaster. It is always handy, especially in the present day, to have an understanding of how things work in this industry – including the technological side. You can make do with writing a concise summary and broadcasting it for your viewers, but you will have incredibly higher chances of success if you also have some technical expertise, including knowledge of how to handle a camera and edit audio and video recordings.

Reading the news off a teleprompter may sound easy, but it’s actually more complicated than it seems. Anchors and reporters have to develop a reading style that seems natural, but isn’t too fast, too slow, too nuanced, too accented, too high-pitched, too quiet, or any other extreme. Reading news like a professional news anchor requires skill, practice, and training.
Investigative or watchdog journalism is a type of journalism that uncovers what others don't want uncovered. An investigative journalist digs deep into one story, whether it be corporate financial corruption, violent crime, or other topics that might not get covered in everyday news.

TELEVISION PRESENTING TIPS
1. Get comfortable in front of a camera.
2. TV presenters don’t just interact with the people on set, but they also need to talk directly to the camera to interact with viewers at home.
3. Set up a camera at home and practice talking directly to the lens.
4. Pretend the camera is another person you’re talking to and engage with it so you don’t come across as boring or uncomfortable.

Anchoring is not just reading the news from a teleprompter, it is about steering a discussion, pacifying an outburst and controlling a programme. It is important to have presence of mind and a fine wit to keep situations under control.
Although women sports journalists cite discrimination and harassment as serious problems, these issues are not the reasons they might leave careers. Frustration over sacrificing time and family relationships, compounded by tokenism, is the salient reason for leaving the industry (Marie Hardin & Stacie Shain, 2005).
WOMEN IN SPORTS JOURNALISM
While female sports journalists have made their way onto sports desks and into locker rooms, some say they have not gained acceptance. Now they are asking if the sacrifices of time and family are worth it (Marie Hard & Stacie Shain).

Good television audio needs as much preparation and attention as the video portion. Like any other production element, television audio should not simply be added. It should be integrated into the production planning from the very beginning (Zettl, 2009).

When offering appointments to broadcasters, employers should ensure that the candidates undergo vigorous voice tests and those who are found to have speech impediments and other impenetrable accents that may not be overcome after some practice should be denied job.
AMAZING FACTS ABOUT TELEVISION

Zooming is the function everyone loves. It is easy and you can do lots with it, which is why it is so over-used. The most common advice we give on using the zoom is USE IT LESS!
RULE OF THIRDS
For the most visually interesting shots, dead centre is actually the least compelling location for the subject. Artists and psychologists have found that the so-called Rule of Thirds makes better footage.
