PEMBA DC EYES PARLIAMENTARY SEAT AHEAD OF 2026 POLLS

Pemba Constituency aspiring Member of Parliament Obey Habeenzu has challenged people in the district to give a chance to people who have been tested in leadership.

Habeenzu narrates that time has come when the people of Pemba should have a leader who stays with them and understands their challenges better.

Habeenzu who is the current District Commissioner for Pemba explains that he is ready to serve at any position the ruling United Party for National Development assign him.

He is seeking support from the electorates ahead of the 2026 August general elections.

He disclosed his plans to stand as the area Member of Parliament during the Chikweya Political program on Sunday evening on Simooya Community Radio.94.3FM

Meanwhile callers such as Vonety Hazemba and Prince Hamuwele welcomed the news that the DC is aspiring as the area member of parliament.

PEMBA DC URGES SUPPORT FOR UPND AHEAD OF AUGUST POLLS

Pemba District Commissioner Obey Habeenzu has called on Zambians to give the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) another mandate in the August 13 general elections.

Mr Habeenzu says under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, the country has recorded significant development, particularly through the implementation of various government policies.

He emphasized that the UPND administration has prioritized Zambians in development programmes across the country, adding that no other government has placed citizens at the centre of development in the same way.

The District Commissioner was speaking Sunday evening at his office during a live discussion on Chikweya Radio Programme on Simooya Community Radio.94.3FM

Meanwhile, one of the callers, Prince Hamuwele from Moyo Chiefdom, commended the government for what he described as tremendous development taking place in the area.

FIVE TEACHERS ARRESTED IN SENANGA FOR ASSULTING A GRADE 11 PUPIL

Police in Senanga District have arrested five teachers at Senanga Day Secondary School for allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old pupil.

The incident is reported to have occurred on March 16, 2026, but was later reported to police on March 19 by the childs father Lungowe Mooka aged 51.

Western Province Police Commanding Officer, Rae Hamoonga says the victim sustained injuries including neck pains, rib pain, backache, and general body pains following the alleged assault.

Hamoonga identified the suspects as Headteacher Kaitwa Kamona and four class teachers, Febian Mushoke, Mubiana Milale, Jere Simataa and Masialeti Kubindwa.

He said the five have since been charged with the offence of assault on a child and released on police bond, and are expected to appear in court soon.

Police have since warned against all forms of violence against children, stating that such acts will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.

DEC ARRESTS EIGHT CANNABIS GROWERS AND ONE TRAFFICKER IN NATIONWIDE CRACKDOWN

The Drug Enforcement Commission, DEC, has arrested eight suspected cannabis growers and one trafficker in a series of operations conducted across the country.

The arrests were made in North-Western, Central, Luapula, Southern and Copperbelt provinces, involving offences of unlawful cultivation and trafficking of cannabis.

Among those arrested is 47-year-old Rogers Kanema of Mwinilunga District, who was found cultivating over 500 kilogrammes of cannabis plants.

In a separate operation, two suspects were apprehended in Chisamba for trafficking over 200 pre-packed cannabis sachets weighing more than 200 kilogrammes.

Other arrests were recorded in Mkushi, Itezhi-Tezhi, Samfya and Nchelenge districts, while a 27-year-old suspect was intercepted in a joint operation from Chirundu to Kitwe for trafficking over 120 kilogrammes of cannabis.

DEC Deputy Public Relations Officer Theresa Mawere says all the drugs have been seized and the suspects are in custody awaiting court appearances.

She has warned that operations targeting drug-related crimes have intensified and urged members of the public to continue cooperating with authorities by reporting suspicious activities.

259 SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH MURDER OF A BUSINESS WOMAN IN KALUMBILA DISTRICT

Police in Kalumbila District, North-Western province have arrested 259 individuals in connection with the recent murder of a business woman in Kisasa area.

The suspects, comprising 163 males and 96 females, are facing charges of murder, assault on police, malicious damage to property, and riotous behavior.

WOMEN CHALLENGED TO EMBRACE FARMING FOR FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE

A female tomato farmer of Pangwe Village in Choma District has urged women to venture into farming to achieve financial independence.

Speaking to Simooya News, Memory Mudenda said women should not rely entirely on their husbands but engage in income-generating activities such as gardening and crop production.

Mudenda notes that farming can provide a steady source of income and rarely results in losses when properly managed.

Meanwhile, a market survey conducted by the Simooya News team at Makalanguzu Market indicates that a crate of tomatoes is currently selling between 200 and 260 kwacha.
