IShowSpeed 's African Tour Is Destroying Long-Held Stereotypes
The American content creator and streamer IShowSpeed is currently touring Africa. Before he landed, many people outside the continent made comments such as “Speed will get robbed,” “Africa has no Wi-Fi,” and “Africans live in huts.”
However, when Speed arrived in Africa, the reality was completely different. He experienced the African hospitality we are known for. He didn’t feel like an outsider or just an American visitor, he felt like one with the people.
Through his live streams and the warm reception he received, many long-held stereotypes about Africa have been confronted. The narrative began to shift, with comments changing to “I didn’t know African people are this welcoming” and “I didn’t know Africa was this beautiful.”
Fellow Africans, we still have a lot of work to do in helping write our own narrative about the continent. Every continent in the world has its share of challenges. Let us not become so consumed by ours that we fail to share the beauty, resilience, and greatness of our extraordinary story.
Every chance we get, let us speak life into our continent. Africans are, by far, some of the most generous and welcoming people you will ever meet.

Ishowspeed. Have you seen how embarrassing Zambians can be? We are humiliating ourselves before iShowSpeed even Lands.
Honestly, this situation is both very concerning and painfully funny at the same time. Before iShowSpeed has even arrived in Zambia, we have already started embarrassing ourselves online. The posts going around are shocking. Some are desperate, some are cringeworthy, and some are just outright sad. Instead of excitement and dignity, we are projecting confusion and desperation to the whole world. Why do we Zambians behave like this? We are already painting a very bad picture of our country before the visitor even steps off the plane. Zambian celebrities and influencers, please, let us have some self-respect. Do not start asking for money. Do not start begging. I have seen those posts, and they are deeply embarrassing. Musicians, please do not start asking iShowSpeed for features. You will embarrass yourselves and the country. These things should happen naturally, not through public begging.
One post really summed up the madness when someone said, “I hope the plan isn’t to take iShowSpeed to State House to ask him how to monetise our social media presence.” That would be beyond embarrassing. At that point, it would not even be funny anymore it would just be tragic. Seeing all these posts makes one wonder if we even understand how visitors perceive us. Let us be honest for a moment. Before iShowSpeed decided to visit Zambia, he definitely did his research. He already knows why he wants to come. Maybe he wants to see Livingstone. Maybe he wants to experience our culture and eat nshima. Maybe he wants to meet the President. Maybe he wants to interact with local influencers. Whatever his reason is, it is his choice. He does not need to be guided by desperate social media posts.
What people are doing now is simply killing the vibe before the man even arrives. iShowSpeed has a team, and that team is definitely monitoring social media. They are seeing how
