The Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Vice President visited Antioch and Eden primary schools to appreciate the implementation of the Transformative Emergency Response for Nutrition Improvement in Zambia (TERNIZA) Project.

With funding support from the Government of Germany through KfW, the TERNIZA project, implemented by the World Food Programme collaborating with the Government of Zambia, seeks to improve nutrition outcomes for vulnerable populations, particularly children, while enhancing the productivity and resilience of smallholder farmers.

The project is helping communities in nine districts across Zambia that were drought-affected to restore agricultural productivity, diversify livelihoods, and improve nutrition for 60,000 smallholder households and 81,000 learners.

The Government of Zambia, in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Kingdom’s Met Office and the World Meteorological Organisation, today held a stakeholder meeting on the Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) to strengthen Zambia’s weather observation and climate information systems.

The meeting brought together stakeholders involved in the project’s implementation to discuss how the initiative will impact their respective sectors and propose support for its long-term sustainability.

Implemented through the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment - Zambia via the Meteorological Department, the initiative will support the upgrade and automation of 21 existing surface weather observation stations and the installation of four upper-air stations. This will strengthen the generation of weather and climate data for anticipatory action, disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, and informed planning across key sectors, including agriculture and water resources.
