Key Insights from the ITS Kopala Summit – Agape Innovations
As Agape Innovations, attending the ITS Kopala Summit was a significant and inspiring experience that brought together innovation, technology, and practical problem solving. The summit provided a dynamic platform where innovators, students from different universities, industry leaders, and funders converged to exchange ideas on shaping the future through technology.
We were encouraged by the presence of key stakeholders such as the Minister of Technology, Hon. Felix Mutati, alongside the United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative, BongoHive, National Pension Scheme Authority, the European Union, and representatives from Amref Health Africa. Their involvement demonstrated a strong commitment to fostering innovation, supporting entrepreneurs, and driving sustainable development.
Through the various panel discussions, one key insight stood out: impactful innovation begins with a deep understanding of the problem. As Agape Innovations, this reaffirmed our approach to building solutions that are rooted in real challenges faced by communities.
We also gained valuable insight into the importance of collaboration. The summit highlighted that solving complex challenges requires collective effort—bringing together innovators, institutions, policymakers, and investors. This reinforces our belief in partnerships as a pathway to creating scalable and sustainable solutions.
Another critical lesson was that innovation must create tangible value and address real pain points. Technology must go beyond being advanced; it must be accessible, practical, and relevant to the people it serves. This aligns strongly with our mission as we continue to explore solutions in mining, environment, and community development.
Overall, the ITS Kopala Summit was a transformative experience for Agape Innovations, strengthening our vision and deepening our commitment to leveraging technology for meaningful impact. BongoHive

Empowering artisanal and small-scale miners is a step in the right direction by the Ministry of mines and Mineral Development . The focus on training, licensing, and formalization reflects a strong commitment to a more inclusive and responsible mining sector.
However, there is a critical gap that needs urgent attention.
As a young Geologist and climate change advocate in , I strongly appeal to the government and relevant stakeholders to establish formal mineral markets across all active mining towns, especially in areas dominated by artisanal and small-scale miners.
I have received numerous concerns from Artisenal miners who are forced to sell their minerals to informal or “briefcase” buyers due to the absence of structured markets. This not only exploits miners but also leads to significant loss of national value.
Creating accessible, regulated mineral markets would: >Ensure fair pricing for miners
>Improve traceability and transparency, Reduce illegal trading activities
>Increase government revenue
In addition, there is a pressing need to strengthen our national gold strategy. While the Bank of Zambia and ZCCM IH remains a key buyer of gold, there is a need to allocate dedicated financial resources specifically for gold purchases.
By doing so, Zambia can:
>Increase its gold reserves
>Strengthen currency stability
>Build investor confidence
>Compete effectively with informal buyers who currently dominate the market.
A strong gold reserve is not just a mining issue it is a national economic strategy.
Let us move beyond formalization on paper and create real systems that work for the people on the ground. Sustainable mining is not only about extraction, but about equity, accountability, and long-term national benefit.
The future of Zambia’s mining sector depends on the decisions we make today.

*Building a better Zambia through innovation and advocacy.*

Yesterday, Agape Youth Innovations attended the Crowtech app launch in Kitwe, graced by the Kitwe District Commissioner, students from different higher learning institutions across the Copperbelt Province, innovators, entrepreneurs, and many more.

Agape Youth Innovations remarked that the app has come at the right time, as Zambia is at its highest point in adopting technological innovations across almost every sector. Crowtech is bridging the gap between those in need and those with solutions.

Bravo! Kudos to the two engineers, Mr. Steven Crown Musonda and Mr. Mwenya, for this innovation.

As Agape Youth Innovations, we are encouraged to see how other youths are thinking forward to make life easier in the world of technology. We will engage more as we are also on track in developing a similar app in the mining sector.

Fall in love with the problem, not your solution.
That’s what Agape Youth Innovations learned at BongoHive Roadshow last week.

Thanks to EU support, we’re now equipped with the innovation toolkit: real problems, real solutions, real impact. The journey continues.

Innovation isn’t about having everything — it’s about using what you have differently.
That’s lesson 1 Agape Youth Innovations took from our session at BongoHive Roadshow.

We also learned how to prepare a lean canvas, discover if your solution is a painkiller or a vitamin, pitch in limited time, design for real users, and turn problems into opportunities. Because the future belongs to those who create it.

Grateful for the knowledge, the network, and the push to start _now_.
