please join the Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP) for a hybrid event exploring the impact of youth alienation and popular culture on effective peacebuilding, CVE, and DDR efforts. The event will showcase a new book by Marc Sommers, We the Young Fighters: Pop Culture, Terror, and War in Sierra Leone. The book examines the extraordinary impact of reggae legend Bob Marley, rap luminary Tupac Shakur, and the John Rambo action movies on prewar resistance, terror-based warfare, and the postwar peace in Sierra Leone. A follow-on panel discussion will then surface challenges and opportunities concerning working with youth in our peacebuilding efforts, responding to terror-focused warfare by insurgent and violent extremist groups, and engaging with ex-combatants.

CONFLICT IN THE MIDDLE EAST

As of recent reports regarding the airstrike that caused destruction of the healthy facility (Hospital) in Gaza, both Israel and Hamas major actors in the ongoing conflict have denied responsibility for the attack.

Our analysis is that conflicting claims and denial of responsibility has a potential challenge towards efforts for peace talks which is important in the resolution of conflict and de-escalation of the conflict. Both parties and their supporters need to dialogue and address main issues of interest and reconciliation of grievances. It is our Hope that the United States efforts in supporting Israel will be more tailored towards resolution as opposed towards empowerment for defense.

The USA has responded with support with reason to help Israel defend itself, this will attract support for the opponents, the engagements from the parties in conflict can spun regional conflict, with ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe this has serious threat on international peace and security with spill over effects that can be felt especially in Africa. A call to resoultion and prevention of conflict escalation is an urgent solution right now.
