K250, 000 PERSONAL BOOST FOR SUSAN
I will officially kick off my Northern Circuit campaign tour on Wednesday, 1 July 2026, beginning in Mwense, where I will join the campaign to mobilise support for Susan.
In addition, I have committed a contribution of K250,000 towards her campaign. Susan deserves the support of every well-meaning Zambian who believes in empowering a new generation of principled, capable young leaders to help give birth to a New Zambia.
The future belongs to those who are prepared to lead it. Let us stand with our youth, invest in their leadership, and build the Zambia we want together.

๐๐๐๐๐, ๐2 ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ โ Save the Children International, with support from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has officially handed over rehabilitated health infrastructure and critical utility systems to the Ministry of Health in Mongu District, in a major boost to maternal, newborn and child healthcare services in Western Province.
The infrastructure handed over includes rehabilitated operating theatres at ๐๐๐ฐ๐๐ง๐ข๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ซ๐๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ญ๐๐ฅ and ๐๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ฎ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ญ๐๐ฅ, an upgraded maternity annex at Mongu District Hospital, solar power installations at L๐ข๐ญ๐๐ฐ๐ ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐, ๐๐ฎ๐ค๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ฒ๐ ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐ and the ๐๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ฎ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ญ๐๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐๐ค, as well as improved water systems at ๐๐๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ก๐๐ฌ๐ก๐ and ๐๐๐ฆ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ฌ.
Speaking during the official handover ceremony in Mongu, Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services ๐๐ซ. ๐๐๐ง๐ง๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ข said the investment represented a significant milestone in the Governmentโs efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to quality health services, especially for mothers, newborns and children.
Dr. Lishimpi said the handover reflected the strength of partnership between the Government of Zambia, Save the Children International and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in advancing health service delivery in the province.
He noted that the operating theatre at Mongu District Hospital, which opened on 23 October 2017, had never been operational until now, limiting the hospitalโs capacity to provide timely life-saving surgical services.
โThese investments directly support our national priorities of improving maternal and child health outcomes, strengthening emergency care systems, and ensuring that healthcare services remain accessible, functional and reliable even in rural communities,โ Dr. Lishimpi said.
He added that a functioning theatre would enable emergency cases to be attended to without delay, while stable power supply and improved water systems would enhance infection prevention, patient safety and dignified maternal care.
Dr. Lishimpi thanked Save the Children International and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their continued support to Zambiaโs health sector and urged health workers, local leadership and communities to safeguard the newly handed over facilities and ensure they are properly maintained for long-term benefit.
Save the Children International Country Director ๐๐ฌ.๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐จ๐๐ ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ข๐ค๐๐ฆ๐๐ข said the handover marked an important step in addressing service delivery gaps in Mongu District, particularly at Mongu District Hospital, which had for years operated without a functional theatre.
โFor nearly seven years, Mongu District Hospital has operated without a functional theatre, limiting its ability to provide timely life-saving surgical care, especially for mothers and newborns experiencing complications. Today, that situation changes,โ she said.
Ms. Kambikambi said the investment went beyond infrastructure and represented a commitment to survival, resilience and equity for women, children and families.
The handover comes at a time when Zambia is recording progress in reducing maternal and child mortality. According to the 2024 Zambia Demographic and Health Survey, maternal mortality has declined from 278 to 187 deaths per 100,000 live births, while neonatal mortality has dropped from 27 to 17 deaths per 1,000 live births.
The support was delivered under the Integrated Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and Nutrition Systems Strengthening Project, which Save the Children has been implementing in Mongu District since May 2024 in partnership with the Western Provincial Health Office.

๐จ ECZ SPEAKS: HH WILL NOT FOLLOW CAMPAIGN TIMETABLE!
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says President Hakainde Hichilema will not be bound by the presidential campaign timetable that will be announced ahead of the elections.
ECZ explains that because he is the sitting Head of State, his official duties and movements are already guided by existing laws.
The decision is expected to ignite heated debate across the country, with some questioning whether all presidential candidates should be treated equally during campaigns.

GOVERNMENT EXPANDS SOCIAL CASH TRANSFER BENEFICIARIES TO OVER 1.5 MILLION
Information and Media Permanent Secretary Mr. Thabo Kawana has highlighted significant progress recorded under the Social Cash Transfer programme, attributing the achievements to prudent economic management and the successful implementation of the Government's debt restructuring programme.
Addressing members of the press today, Mr. Kawana disclosed that the number of Social Cash Transfer beneficiaries has increased from 616,468 in 2021 to 1,555,840 currently.
He said the remarkable expansion has been made possible through the prudent utilisation of public resources and the fiscal space created by debt restructuring measures undertaken over the past few years.
He reaffirmed that these interventions have enabled Government to strengthen and scale up social protection programmes aimed at improving the welfare of vulnerable citizens across the country.
Mr. Kawana further stated that the debt restructuring programme has created the necessary fiscal headroom to substantially increase and sustain expenditure on key sectors such as social protection, education, health and other critical services across all ten provinces.
He emphasised that these gains are the result of deliberate policy decisions, strategic interventions and the consistent implementation of Government programmes designed to ensure that public spending directly benefits vulnerable communities while contributing to the attainment of national development objectives.
The Permanent Secretary also revealed that Zambia's foreign exchange reserves have risen to US$6.5 billion, a development he linked to prudent management of the national economy, sound stewardship of public finances and disciplined resource allocation by Government.
Mr. Kawana noted that without the debt restructuring programme, about 90 percent of the national budget would have been consumed by debt servicing obligations during the current fiscal year.
He explained that such a situation would have significantly constrained resources required for social spending, infrastructure development, job creation and other essential programmes aimed at reducing poverty and promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Mr. Kawana reiterated Government's commitment to safeguarding the gains achieved and ensuring that ongoing fiscal consolidation translates into tangible improvements in the lives of the Zambian people.
