This Youth Day, we honour the courage of the students of 1976 and reflect on the role education continues to play in shaping futures.

Most of us can point to someone who opened a door, offered support, or helped us take the next step.

Today, we invite you to honour Youth Day by being that person for a young learner. Across our platform are campaigns from students with big dreams and exciting futures ahead of them – but right now, they need support to overcome immediate barriers like school fees.

A small act of support today could help shape someone’s tomorrow. Visit our platform to support a campaign and invest in a future.

On 4 July 2026, our CEO (Donna Shefer) is swapping the boardroom for the road and taking on the Knysna Half Marathon (21.1km) to support – a movement turning fitness into funding for education.

Every Rand donated goes into the GetGo Pool Fund and is distributed across active education campaigns on the GetGoFund platform, helping multiple school communities access funding for critical education needs.

Our goal: R21,000 by race day
(That’s R1,000 for every kilometre of the 21.1km route.)

Whether you:
🏃 Sponsor a kilometre
💸 Make a once-off donation
🔁 Set up a recurring contribution
📣 Or simply share this campaign with your network
You’ll be helping move education forward across South Africa.

And because giving should be easy:

✅ Downloadable Section 18A tax certificates for donors
✅ Opportunity for businesses to contribute toward BBBEE Socio-Economic Development (SED) goals
✅ Support for a more sustainable funding model for schools

Education is a marathon. Let’s go the distance together.
Donate. Share. Tag someone who believes education deserves a stronger future.

18-YEAR-OLD STUDENT RAISES OVER R10,000 SELLING GRAPES TO FUND HIS OWN MATRIC BALL

Miguel Hendricks, an 18-year-old matric pupil at Bergrivier High School in Wellington, Western Cape, South Africa, has raised just over R10,000 by selling grapes (and later other fruits) to fund his own matric ball (farewell dance) without burdening his family.

Miguel decided to take responsibility for the costs of his matric ball such as suit hire, shoes, transport (a fancy car for arrival), grooming. because his family couldn’t easily afford it. He started selling punnets of seedless grapes for R20 each every day after school since February 2026. He has contributed some earnings to household needs like food, electricity, and school fees, while saving the rest for the event in September.

With mid-year exams approaching, he has scaled back to weekends and Fridays only. As grapes went out of season, he switched to packaging and selling other fruits. His hard work and humble approach (he doesn’t pressure people to buy) have earned him respect in the community.

Kamohelo is a Grade 11 learner who is passionate about both academics and sport, and dreams of becoming a gynaecologist one day to help women with their health and wellbeing.

Her favourite subjects are Mathematics and Life Sciences, and she loves playing netball.

One of her greatest achievements has been balancing sport while maintaining strong academic results – and we couldn’t agree more.

Thanks to the support of generous donors, part of her school fees has already been covered. She now needs assistance to complete payment for her school year at Maharishi Invincibility School.

Support her journey and find her campaign at www.getgofund.org

What an incredible privilege it is to work with teachers who show up with so much passion and care for their learners. Giving up their Saturdays to develop campaigns that address critical education needs in their no-fee schools, all to create greater opportunities for their students.

But more than that, these are teachers who are committed to every learner – especially those who may not fit the traditional academic mould – and who work tirelessly to make their schools places where every student has the opportunity to thrive.

A big thank you, and congratulations to the teachers at Masiphumelele High School and UKhanyo Primary School

This Youth Month, we remember the students of 1976 who stood up for equal access to education and opportunity.

While much has changed since then, many young South Africans still face barriers to accessing quality education.

Donating toward an education campaign can help change that and keep the legacy of 1976 alive by creating opportunities for the next generation.
