I often see people who feel so overwhelmed by all the information out there and who want to make some solid diet and lifestyle changes but don’t know where to begin. 🤷‍♀️

I could write an essay on this post, elaborating on this, but for now here are some considerations. 💭

Don’t feel that you need to change everything in one go! Start with what’s realistic and what make sense to you! 💡

For example if you are willing to cut down the added sugar in your coffee ☕️ from 2 tsp. to 1 tsp. per cup 🥄 and reduce intake from 5 cups a day to 3 cups a day and replace the rest with water 💦 , but don’t want to give up your daily glass of wine 🍷 just yet, then start with the coffee change.
You’ll be cutting down from 10 tsp. added sugar to 3 tsp. added sugar per day AND increasing your water intake in doing so 😯
You can reduce on the wine later on.
But make sure you maintain this change and then build on it by making the next realistic change for you.

And make sure the changes are sustainable! If you are a meat lover 🥩 then it doesn’t make any sense to go vegetarian 🌱(and there is no need to). Rather try to include at least one plant based meal per week; you will still get benefits from it! 🥗 🍅 🥑 🥕

And please ask for help from a registered dietitian!
You don’t have to struggle on your own. We can help to find an individualized approach that works. ☀️🌸🏆 🍴 😊

Spring Salads 🥗
Salads don’t need to be boring, there are so many possibilities! Depending on what you add to them, you can turn them into a side dish or a meal in itself.
🥬🍅🥒🥕🥑
Don’t be fooled though, not all salads are as healthy as you think and some can turn into a calorie bomb with too many trimmings, oils and extras.

Here are some healthy salad options for inspiration.
Comment below with your feedback, suggestions or your own favourite recipe/ type of salad.
Happy Saturday ☀️💐🌸

Last night’s supper 🍽 🥗🍗 🔥
It was a long week but I am grateful for the beautiful, warm Spring weather we are having and for a hubby who is happt to braai, so all I needed to do was put a quick salad together.
Simple, tasty and easy and there was enough to have leftovers with rolls for lunch today.
What’s your favourite Friday night supper?

Dinner made easy with this spice blend from @woolworths_sa and the ready in 90 seconds rice and quinoa mix from @checkers_sa.
I replaced the cream in the recipe on the back of the spice mix with plain yoghurt and served it with a small side salad and a glass of wine 🍷😊

For weight loss I recommend dropping the wine and keeping the portion of rice & quinoa small or replacing it with baby marrow noodles, cauliflower rice or steamed butternut.
Adding more veggies/salad to the meal adds extra volume and fibre (helping with increased satiety), and vitamins and minerals with minimal calories.
Having meals with flavour helps to improve satisfaction from the meal and prevent you from looking for something else post supper. Keeping all your meals bland and boring just isn’t sustainable!

Tuesday’s lunch-break run 🏃🏼‍♀️
Stop making excuses and start making time to exercise!

With our busy lifestyles we often battle do this, but it’s so important for our health and well being and offers so many benefits ✅🏃‍♂️🏋️
If you can’t fit in as long a session as you would like to, then do a shorter session, even if something home-based.
It all adds up and gets you into a routine.

Yesterday the only time I had to get our for my much needed run was over lunch time, when the time came my motivation was a bit low and I started getting caught up in my work, but then reminded myself how much better I would feel for it and once I was out I felt great 💪😊

What is your favourite exercise to do? And how do you make sure you fit exercise into your schedule?

Belated bday spoils on Women’s Day Weekend 😍🌺💅
Thanks @breenbridget for the spoils and to your amazing team at @sorbetgrayston for the amazing treatments (mani, pedi, facial and waxing), professional and friendly service, with all the necessary Covid protocols in place.
I don’t often treat myself like this but when I do I love it.
It was so good for my psyche and followed by a catch up with friends and the Springboks winning the rugby 🏉 🇿🇦 🎉 🏆 , along with the sun shining and warmer weather ☀️ made for a great Saturday!
It’s important to remember that a healthy lifestyle goes beyond eating well and exercising. It’s about spoiling yourself a bit too and doing things that make you happy and help to improve your mood and mental well being. No matter how small it is.

What are your favourite non-food related treats and spoils or simple things that you like to do which helps to improve your mood and overall psyche?
Happy Sunday 🌻

Butternut, black eyed bean and coconut curry 🥘 Yum!
I got this recipe from my mom in law and it’s a winner every time. Perfect for a cold winter’s evening.
This hearty, vegan, gluten free curry is filled with nutritious, fibre-rich foods, and packed with flavour.
The original recipe uses pumpkin but I used butternut as is what’s i had at home.

It’s my bday today 🎈
Happy Bday to me 🎉
I had a great day, despite it being another birthday in lockdown.
And guess what? Dietitians also indulge sometimes 😂
I started with a family walk along the river 🚶‍♀️🚶
Lunch was a delicious take out of Calamari Diavolo from @riversidecaffee with some nice wine.
Followed later on with yummy carrot cake from @zarascafejhb 🎂
And then ending the evening with some red wine 🍷
I enjoyed every mouthful absolutely guilt free.
Tomorrow it’s back to my usual eating and hopefully a short run.
It’s all about balance and moderation and enjoying the indulgences we get 😊
What are your favourite local restaurants that are your go to? And what are your fav indulgences?
Stay safe everyone 🙏

Are you a grapefruit fan?
It’s one of the only fruits I’ve never enjoyed, but after trying it again this season it’s become my new favourite!
I find the sourness strangely satisfying and somehow it actually helps to curb my sweet cravings, as I don’t feel like anything sweet when I have the sour taste in my mouth.
Offering plenty of nutritional benefits it’s a great choice to have with breakfast or as a snack.

There are 2 different topics combined into one here.
The first is that just because something is vegan, it doesn’t mean it’s healthier. If you look at the ingredient list you’ll see that the 3 main ingredient in this are glucose syrup, sugar and oil. In a higher proportion than the coffee itself ☕️

And the second topic is about being mindful of these common winter drinks and how quickly they can contribute unwanted calories and sugar without you even realizing. 🤔

I’m not saying you can’t have them at all, there is a place for them, but not on a daily basis.

What drinks or products would you like to know more about?

Weekend Breakfast Baking 😋 Banana, oat and egg crumpets with cinnamon and vanilla essence, topped with berries and a dollop of pain yoghurt 🥚🍌 🥞🍓.
I love this weekend breakfast option. I always make extra to freeze and then pop them into the toaster as an easy snack option for my toddler during the week. It’s a good way to pack in some healthy ingredients into a quick, tasty and easy to eat option.
There are various combinations you can try for variety and to suit your preference.

Quick and easy ‘Meat Free’ dinner option ✅
I try to do at least one meat free meal per week and last week we tried this convenience frozen meal from PnP.
I recommend home cooked options when possible but we all live busy lives and this was a good, quick and easy and tasty option to go for. It works well for a lunch option too, simply popping it into the microwave from froze for 7 minutes.
Recommended serving size is half the pack but you can easily bulk it up with extra veggies/ salad (we served it with a veggie soup for starters) and depending on your calorie requirements some people can get by with more.

Happy Friday everyone 🎉😊 💕
This is me finally catching my breath and having some time out in Dullstroom 🍷 🔥 😊
Anyone else feel like trying to balance work life/mom life/ life in general/ all of the above is an non-stop rollercoaster?
That’s been me the last month, hence having been so quiet on social media. I feel like I’ve been going non stop.
It’s so so important to stop and catch your breath and take some time out. And that’s my plan for the weekend. Finally!
What are you all doing to keep warm and wind down a bit this weekend?
