WHAT DASO HAS ACHIEVED BASED ON OUR MANIFESTO
For Immediate Release
DATE: 20 November 2021

Good day
At the beginning of this year, DASO activists introduced a manifesto to the student populace through campaigns, a manifesto that resonates with the student welfare. We are going to give an update and accountability for DASO manifesto.

ACADEMICS
●Online Application - Through out the years of DASOs existence we have been driving the campaign for online applications. The institution has succumb to the call, now there is also online application. Students can now access their results online on their student portal.
●PENDING RESULTS - After we had an engagement with students with pending results DASO collected data and then sent to DHET through the Deputy Shadow Minister of Higher Education and Training Science and Innovation Chantel King and academic results came back for all students across campuses.
●ACADEMIC AWARDS AND GRADUATION - In April DASO SRC deployees sent a proposal to the institution to organize an academic award ceremony to motivate and award students who performed well in their academics, due to the country moved back to level 4 around July the proposal was halt but will be considered next year. Next year DASO will remind the managers of this initiative to be done in March and have a standard graduation in September not online.

FINANCIAL AID
●NSFAS - when students didn't get funding in February and March DASO SRC deployees also played part in collecting database of those students and sent if to the CEO of NSFAS Mr Andile Nongogo through Chantel King, students got their allowances. We also note that there are still outstanding allowances which we said in the previous Financial Aid Committee meeting to be paid up till mid December.

STUDENT SUPPORT
●PLACEMENT - In March this year DASO executive committee got into contact with the office of the Mayor cllr Nqaba Bhanga to set up a meeting with the campus manager at Iqhayiya so as to table recommendations for recruiting students to get training after completing their qualification. The mayor also conducted an oversight in all the workshops. The resolution of that meeting was, the city is looking on training and employing artisans, so time to time those who finish their qualifications will get trained.
●SECURITY AND SAFETY - We ran a campaign and signed up petition to have metro police patrol in the morning and in the afternoon so that students due to the high volume of students getting mugged. That initiative started vans are now patrolling now and then. We wrote to the office of the MMC last month to have more metro police and he said they are planning of increasing the number of the trained metro so that they don't only patrol in the said time intervals.

FOOD PARCELS
This was a proposal outside our manifesto which we sent to management. This initiative was for students who are without any source of funding, to be given at least food parcels to about 30 students across campuses. The response we got from student support services through the office of the SSS manager he said that "I find it strange that DASO only appeal to the SSS office now for assistance whilst the municipal elections is at hand. Total coincidence hey." this is the same department which allowed fraudulent activities to happen and used public funds yet can't do something genuine for students. This is not the only proposal the institution has turned down coming from us as DASO.

Due to the fact that the country has been going back and forth with lockdown regulations, there are manifesto points that's we did not cover and some we turned down by management.

FOOD PARCELS
For Immediate Release
Date: 14 October 2021

There are quite a number of students whom are without any form of financial support and some of them have already dropped out this year. Today we wrote a proposal to the institution so as to purchase food parcels for students who fall under this cohort for the remainder of the 2021 academic year.

We also note that there is a nutritional program budget set aside to help students get a meal a day and it should continue to server its purpose till the end of the year.

We however hope that the institution will accept our proposal to buy students food parcels as those meals are not enough to carry a person month.

ACADEMIC AWARDS AND GRADUATION CEREMONY
For Immediate Release
Date : 29 July 2021

On the 30th of April 2021 DASO submitted a proposal to the institution and requesting that there should be an academic award and graduation ceremony for students as this will also motivate students to perform better in their academics.

The institution has responded by saying that the marketing department is now being tasked to have virtual graduation as we are still on lockdown and therefore the college should improvise. Next week there will be a meeting partaining this by marking department and campus managers.

Ours as DASO is and will forever be to ensure an optune environment for the student populace of our college and we shall never betray that motto. We also applaud our DASO SRC deployees Sihle Louw and Sibabalo Booi for being constistant and determined to help students.

FOUNDING REPORT 2021 CYCLE
For Immediate Release
DATE: 27 JULY 2021

On the 24th of June 2021 DASO wrote to the office of the SRC Treasurer General Mrs Faniswa Ndamase and we asked her to give out the information partaining to funding as to how many students are funded for 2021 academic year for both NSFAS and WRSETA/other bursaries. The response we got from the TG till to date has been nothing but vague statements.

Last week we received NSFAS report that show how many students are eligible for funding, registration processed, exceptions and appeals. There are 5448 whom are eligible for funding, 3387 registration data received by NSFAS, registration linked 3232 and 155 registration exceptions. Registration exceptions refer to students who changed courses which is contrary to DHET Bursary Rules and Guidelines. Additionally, there are only 6 students with appeals sent to and approved by NSFAS.

This report is from January - June 2021 meaning for NCV and NATED (trimester 1-2 & semester 1).
We are still going to ask the institution to tell us how many students are funded by WRSETA or and other bursaries.
