Uviwe Child & Youth Services is a registered NPO with community-based child protection, ECD and Youth development programmes.
Operating as usual
Educating children about abuse may be difficult when they are young. However, these conversations need to take place to protect children when they are the most vulnerable and impressionable.
Teaching children about their safety can be as simple as telling them that when someone hurts them, says ugly words to them or touches their private parts and its not their parents, is not okay. If they feel scared and they should tell someone immediately. Children need to know these things, it may save their life
WORLD FOSTER DAY 2022
Foster care provides vulnerable children with homes for varying time periods. This day aims to create awareness on foster care, and celebrate families that foster children. Show your support by drawing 3 smiley faces on your fingers, taking a picture and posting it on social media.
Child Protection is all about safeguarding vulnerable children in our society.
Some of the principles include:
1) Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment,
2) Preventing harm to childrens health and development,
3) Ensuring children grow up in safe and effective care, and
4) Acting in the best interest of a child.
Uviwe's social media will zone in on children safety, health and development this week. Our hope is that communities would become more aware of the importance of protecting a child during their early developmental stages so that they can grow into responsible, happy and independent adults.
It is Child Protection Week and Uviwe has taken up the national call to prevent neglect, abuse, violence and exploitation of children.
Uviwe believes in putting young futures first and our Child Protection Week campaign for 2022 aims to create awareness and education on children safety, health and development. We urge parents and caregivers to protect and nurture children now, so that they have the opportunity for a bright and positive future.
Every child has the right to feel safe. And every child deserves options now, for a thriving future. Follow our Facebook and Instagram to keep updated on our Child Protection Activities this week!
Uviwe hosted a successful parenting programme over the past 2 weeks. With 18 parents attending the respective sessions over 4 days, our social workers, Nonceba and Kaybrian were very pleased with the attendance and engagement by parents.
Feedback given by the parents reitterated the need and importance of parenting life skills. Today, they left Uviwe's building feeling empowered to deal with difficult behaviour experienced with their children - and being enlightened on positive ways to enforce discipline that meets their child's development stage.
Parents were also grateful for the opportunity to debrief and take time to focus on their own well-being as human beings.
Uviwe's Siya Phambili Entrepreneurship Programme is happening this week with 25 aspiring business owners being equipped to turn thier business idea into a business reality.
Thank you Grassroots Consulting and Real Development for partnering with us to create pathways for youth to thrive. Thank you Wilhela and Hlumela, the vibrant facilitators who are equipping our young people with tools to reach financial independence.
