Outcome of the Exam Venue:
The students with the student leaders made a recommendation that exams should be held at GAP Presbytery
Church in Greenacres. This reason was made based on the reason :
1) The venue is walking distance from UNISA PE
2) Students will be able to study at UNISA, access wifi , print timetables if need be and proceed to the
exam venue
3) The exam venue is central as students would only need one taxi , bus to the venue.
4) The exam venue can have SAPS patrol , security presence during examinations.
5) Students noted the parking safety, the lighting and suitability for disabled people.
6) Students noted the adequate ablution facilities and they were satisfied that the venue meets the
minimum requirements that has been required by the students
7) Students noted that this exam venue , must be finalized and students must be emailed messages ,
even sms messages of an exam venue change well in advance of the April/May/June 2019
examinations.
The students of Port Elizabeth reminded, the student leadership of the student demand for a building with
adequate space and adequate services. Students resolved with student leadership , that this decision must be
seen as a temporary measure, the long term measure that UNISA must commit to is offering the students of
Port Elizabeth a building that is owned by UNISA that will have sufficient space for all UNISA academic
programmes and activities. This proposal , must be offered to students by regional management and
University States as students resolved that UNISA should move away from rental to ownership.
Student leadership and students noted that as stakeholders at UNISA which are clients , they have the right to
choose a venue that finds an expression and the approval of the students of Port Elizabeth. Management and
the Examination Department should no later than Mid-March 2019 respond with feedback to the students, on
this recommendation.
Students and student leaders expressed appreciation for the engagements and thanked stakeholders that
hold the interests of students with excellence.
This letter confirms, that the students of Port Elizabeth have resolved to recommend the
procurement of GAP Presbytery Church , for the conducting of the April, May , June 2019
examination period. The students also recommended that the Algoa exam venue also be made
available to Algoa students. Students recommended security , SAPS patrol, water dispensers,
and 24 hour study access during exams.
