Good evening fellow parents and teachers. Is there any way that the school can issue school work to be picked up from the school? My daughter is very far behind with school work and it worries me so much. There is no watsapp group for the kids to recieve their class school work individually...
Do you guys have a space for a grade 2 pupil?

To our Sydenham Family

We are sure you will all agree, for everyone’s safety our lockdown has been extended! We still have about three weeks to go, but we are unsure of what the future holds, but we do know that our God holds the future and has a plan for us.

The Department of Education is busy working on ways to recover the lost classroom time. Our unions are also in contact with us to get suggestions from various schools and take these into consideration. Some of the strategies include shortening the school holidays, lengthening of school days, and as a last resort, trimming the curriculum.
All over the world parents have been home schooling their children and we see examples on social media. Please don’t allow this to stress you. This is NOT required of you.

Some teachers have been suggesting activities in order to assist you in keeping our children constructively busy and to beat the boredom blues. We are very much aware, however, that not all of our families have access to the internet or sufficient data to keep downloading documents. All of our work WILL be covered in our classrooms when we get back to school. This we promise you!

Our basic educational goals are: Grade R – 3 learning to read, write and do sums, Grade 4 – 7, extending general knowledge and creating a good work ethic, will be achieved.

In the meantime, please monitor your child’s emotional stability at this time. Explain to them in a calm manner about the true facts of the pandemic that we face, but protect them from the hysteria and panic. It affects them more than you think. Teach them to reach out to those alone or in need in safe ways.

Some food for thought: How will this time be remembered by your children? As a time of being bored and miserable? Or quality family time of togetherness, fun and laughter?

We applaud the essential workers in our parent body. We pray for strength, courage and for your safety out there.

We, as a staff, hope you had a blessed Easter with your loved ones. May this time draw us ever closer to God. Take care. Stay safe and stay home!

Much love,
The Principal and Staff at Sydenham Primary

On Saturday the Gr. 7 monitors came to the school for a team building day. The Monitors learnt that there is no "I" in "team" and did plenty of activities which taught them all about teamwork and leadership. We are looking forward to the year ahead with these boys and girl.

A big thanks to Mrs Plaatjies, Mr Mungwariri and Ms Kurten for giving up their Saturday afternoon to spend time with our monitors and an even bigger thanks to Dynamic vision who facilitated the team building.
