MMABANA ARTS CULTURE AND SPORT FOUNDATION POSTPONES THE
HOSTING OF THE TAUNG CULTURAL CALABASH PROVINCIAL
COMPETTIONS AS WELL AS THE MAIN FESTIVAL
Mmabana, Arts, Culture and Sport Foundation, an entity of the North West Provincial Department of Arts, Culture, and Sports Foundation had announced the hosting of the 2021 Taung Cultural Calabash from the 10th – 12 December 2021.
The auditions, as part of the developmental programme, which is the pinnacle of the Taung Cultural Programme were successfully hosted across all four districts in the province, wherein talent was identified, and necessary developmental programmes will be implemented to ensure realisation of full potential of these artists.
These auditions provided a platform for identification of talent, a further platform to give exposure was for the districts winners to battle it out in the provincial competitions, the ultimate price being awarding of prize money and performances at the main festival, sharing stage with professional artists.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the entity has taken a decision to postpone the hosting of the provincial competitions that were planned for the 10th December 2021, as well as the main festival which was planned for the 11th December 2021.
Necessary engagements will be done with relevant key stakeholders to ensure successful hosting of the Taung Cultural Calabash on a date that will be announced in the due course.
We would like to apologise to all the stakeholders, practitioners, artists, and broader community for the inconvenience caused by this necessary postponement, as it is in the interest of the security, and successful hosting of the event.

The Taung Cultural Calabash normally takes place in the month of September and it coincides with the National Heritage Day. But for this year the dates have been altered in response to the current alert level to help in opening up the sector therefore making it an opportune event for cultural practitioners, performance and visual artists, and businesses in the local Dr RSM district to participate in this annual Flagship project.

The TCC is a platform that is created for developmental practitioners to advance their skills by sharing the stage with seasoned acts at the festival. It is this ethos that necessitates the TCC's existence and its continuance.

The 2021 edition of the Taung Cultural Calabash will be held from the 10th – 11th December preceded by the auditions will take place on the following dates: 20 November - at Mmabana Mahikeng, 21 Novemeber- Klerksdorp Auditorium, 27 November - Mmabana Taung, 28 November- at Mmabana Rustenburg(Olympia Stadium)

CAGED

Caged - Shot Film

Caged is a Shot Film about an abducted lady who wants to escape from his captors and her plan goes wrong until nature takes its course.

Caged is a collaborative project between five production companies. The idea behind the collaboration was for each production company to contribute to the production of the short film without having had to spent any money, for example equipment, time, and skills.

The companies are - At Ease Media, Brains On It Media, Totem Production, Ngwao Boswa Media and Production, and Streetkid Mega Optic Media.

These production companies came up with the idea to speak in one voice against gender-based violence/human trafficking.

The short film was produced and written by Tebogo Chologi, who is also acting as Razor in the story.

The production was directed by Lebogang Mosweu and the production designer was Tumisang Kokonyane. The two cinematographers were George Mohoje and Keorapetse Dikgang.

The make-up artist, Boiketlo Esitang, also featured in the short film as Coco, the captured woman.
