Workshop β βProviding dignity and relief from suffering at the end of lifeβ:
Wednesday, 26 April 2023 (13h30 β 17h00). Moderated by the HPCA.
The goal of care at the end of life is to provide dignity and relief from suffering. It is this that unites us all in the palliative care sector. Debate rages in some quarters about the best means of facilitating this goal, particularly in instances where suffering is immense and cannot be alleviated. With reference to selected patient case studies, this workshop (moderated by HPCA) and taking place at the βPalliative Care Conferenceβ will explore the options for achieving the above goal (including euthanasia) in a manner that promotes insight, shared learning and collaboration.

"But what dominates palliative medicine is not the proximity to death, but the best bits of living. Kindness, courage, love, tenderness-these are the qualities that often saturate a personβs last days....''

Good News Story π£
After a life-changing stroke that left her speech and movement impaired, a courageous woman, who had been the sole breadwinner for her family, began to lose confidence. Our team stepped in to provide invaluable support in restoring her strength, and her faith in herself, little by little. By giving her the encouragement she needed during the most trying times, performing vital exercises with her, and aiding her family, she not only regained her self-assurance, but also her mobility!
Today, she is able to walk around her home brimming with pride, buoyed by her progress, and accompanied by her trusted Hospice Nurse. We had faith that she would get better, and she has proven us right. We are overjoyed to witness her determination and resilience!
