The Steenbok Team would like to thank everyone who supported our stand at the Leisure Isle festival this year.
The raffles were very well supported and Lindy from Stall 82 was the lucky winner of the stunning ladybird cake.
The winners of the Chameleon artwork and the Beanie will be drawn and announced during our AGM on Wednesday 20th November at Cearn Hall, Leisure Island starting at 10am and all are welcome. Watch this space, you might be a winner!!!
Thank you to all responsible dog owners for buying the colour coded dog ribbons, we look forward to seeing more of these ribbons in Steenbok. Please note that you can still purchase them at Metelerkamps, KAWS shop and Knysna Veterinary Clinic.
A final thank you to Barbara Krige who painted these stunning hand painted ladybird rocks on behalf of Knysna Rocks. The kids at the festival had great fun finding them during our rock hunt.
Male cat found at Summer Place, Trotter Street. Very vocal, looks like he comes from a good home and may be lost.

Let's give back this Mandela Day!

Mandela day is this coming Thursday and you may be unsure of what to do for your 67 minutes of giving back.

PAWS - Plett Animal Welfare Service (Plettenberg Bay, SA) in Plettenberg Bay and KAWS shop in Knysna is always in need of assistance. There are many ways for you to assist, such as donating pet food, pet supplies, services and time. These donations can either be delivered to PAWS or dropped off at our Plettenberg Bay office, at 6 High Street. If you reside in Knysna and would like to donate to KAWS, the donations can be delivered to our Knysna office, at 15 Tide Street. Should you wish to make a financial contribution, you may do so directly to either of these welfare organisations.
A huge thank you to our customers and role players who supported the 'From Fire To Festive' community fund raising initiative. The Fire To Festive project was initiated to assist organisations who were overwhelmed during the Garden Route fires late last year. Congratulations to all 20 Hamper winners!

Missing Pets in the Brenton Peninsula:
With the disappearance of domestic cats in the Brenton Peninsula area, 4 thus far, Caracals have been the assumed culprit, without any evidence to support the claims. Caracal have been spotted in the area and were immediately associated with the disappearance.

We thought it a good idea to share some information from a wonderful project called Urban Caracal Project, Cape Town, South Africa:

"Caracals are opportunistic predators that will prey on a variety of bird and mammal species. While we know that caracals will feed on domestic cats and dogs, there are numerous factors that can lead to the disappearance of domestic pets and livestock. For example, the most frequent cause of death for domestic cats in urban areas is being hit by cars! These deaths are not always seen, however. Cats hit by cars may be scavenged, be knocked off a road when hit by a car, and people will take dead animals found alongside roads (we've learned this after extensive efforts to collect roadkill). The absence of proof of a pet being hit by a car is therefore not proof of death due to predation."

In addition, they add there are also other predators that can be responsible for the disappearance of pets like Large-spotted Genet and mongoose species that are also found in the area.

For more information please visit their website: http://www.urbancaracal.org/livingwithcaracals/

Above and beyond this please bear in mind, the amazing biodiversity that we boast within Knysna, specifically in the Brenton Peninsula is the reason most of the residents live here. To put it very simply, they were here first, we moved in to their home...

So please guys, there have been rumors about exterminating or removing the Caracal, which is a ridiculous way of solving a complicated problem. These beautiful and majestic cats play an intricate and important role in our Eco-system and this should not be forgotten.

You can't help but we will be helping you. We are setting up a stall at the pink loerie selling second hand clothing and 20% will be going to you. Fire victims are running it and not putting prices out but asking for donations instead.
Should bring us some tins to put out or send some delegates to help out and collectmonies. If you have any parafinalia to sell, bring it along.
Wish us luck and see you with some donations on Monday with a bit of luck.

A visitor to Knysna recently commented on the well displayed merchandise in the KAWS shop, they thought that the goods were tastefully displayed and that the prices were great.
A further comment also mentioned that the clothes presented in different colours....... made it easier to choose.

Art Exhibition coming !!!!

Lulu was the most cheerful little dog I think I've ever had. Since she is gone, I must say, things are not the same.
She had cancer and despite her chemo treatments she did not beat it. She crossed the rainbow bridge on the 23rd of July.

I tend to bounce back with a plan instead of spending my time crying, as it was not a secret. She was my favorite and would follow me everywhere... I think she thought that I was her pet... πŸ˜…

So to keep me busy and distracted I decided to do a fundraising for KAWS, since she was a rescue, as well as my 2 other boys Ash and Gryff. In the memory of Lulu I am organising my first fundraising for KAWS with another artist Ann Hoyle who specializes in pets portrait.

I will be selling high quality prints of the paintings of my pets portrait, and some more from my animal series.
Linda Hoyle will be displaying her portraits and take orders for whoever wants a portrait of their pet. And profit will go to KAWS.

If you are around and want to support Knysna Animal Welfare Society please pop at the event and let's save some puppiesπŸ•πŸ’•πŸ˜Š

Dear Supporters, we want all of you to know that we are very thankful for every donation we receive, please insist on writing down your details in our donation booklet when you drop items at the shop, should you wish to receive a personal thank you, if not, please accept a thank you card from the front of shop staff. Sometimes it is a bit hectic and donors leave even before we had a chance to hand out a personal thank you, please know that we are truly thankful for your support, but it is impossible to thank everyone by name on social media, and if for some reason we skipped saying Thank you we do apoligise for the oversight, we will try to do better in future!

23/09/2022

We will be closed on Saturday 24 Sept due to the Public Holiday as well as Monday 26 Sept for some renovations.
