PAWS - Plett Animal Welfare Service (Plettenberg Bay, SA) in Plettenberg Bay and KAWS shop in Knysna is always in need of assistance. There are many ways for you to assist, such as donating pet food, pet supplies, services and time. These donations can either be delivered to PAWS or dropped off at our Plettenberg Bay office, at 6 High Street. If you reside in Knysna and would like to donate to KAWS, the donations can be delivered to our Knysna office, at 15 Tide Street. Should you wish to make a financial contribution, you may do so directly to either of these welfare organisations.

With the disappearance of domestic cats in the Brenton Peninsula area, 4 thus far, Caracals have been the assumed culprit, without any evidence to support the claims. Caracal have been spotted in the area and were immediately associated with the disappearance.
We thought it a good idea to share some information from a wonderful project called Urban Caracal Project, Cape Town, South Africa:
"Caracals are opportunistic predators that will prey on a variety of bird and mammal species. While we know that caracals will feed on domestic cats and dogs, there are numerous factors that can lead to the disappearance of domestic pets and livestock. For example, the most frequent cause of death for domestic cats in urban areas is being hit by cars! These deaths are not always seen, however. Cats hit by cars may be scavenged, be knocked off a road when hit by a car, and people will take dead animals found alongside roads (we've learned this after extensive efforts to collect roadkill). The absence of proof of a pet being hit by a car is therefore not proof of death due to predation."
In addition, they add there are also other predators that can be responsible for the disappearance of pets like Large-spotted Genet and mongoose species that are also found in the area.
For more information please visit their website: http://www.urbancaracal.org/livingwithcaracals/
Above and beyond this please bear in mind, the amazing biodiversity that we boast within Knysna, specifically in the Brenton Peninsula is the reason most of the residents live here. To put it very simply, they were here first, we moved in to their home...
So please guys, there have been rumors about exterminating or removing the Caracal, which is a ridiculous way of solving a complicated problem. These beautiful and majestic cats play an intricate and important role in our Eco-system and this should not be forgotten.

Art Exhibition coming !!!!
Lulu was the most cheerful little dog I think I've ever had. Since she is gone, I must say, things are not the same.
She had cancer and despite her chemo treatments she did not beat it. She crossed the rainbow bridge on the 23rd of July.
I tend to bounce back with a plan instead of spending my time crying, as it was not a secret. She was my favorite and would follow me everywhere... I think she thought that I was her pet... π
So to keep me busy and distracted I decided to do a fundraising for KAWS, since she was a rescue, as well as my 2 other boys Ash and Gryff. In the memory of Lulu I am organising my first fundraising for KAWS with another artist Ann Hoyle who specializes in pets portrait.
I will be selling high quality prints of the paintings of my pets portrait, and some more from my animal series.
Linda Hoyle will be displaying her portraits and take orders for whoever wants a portrait of their pet. And profit will go to KAWS.
If you are around and want to support Knysna Animal Welfare Society please pop at the event and let's save some puppiesπππ

Dear Supporters, we want all of you to know that we are very thankful for every donation we receive, please insist on writing down your details in our donation booklet when you drop items at the shop, should you wish to receive a personal thank you, if not, please accept a thank you card from the front of shop staff. Sometimes it is a bit hectic and donors leave even before we had a chance to hand out a personal thank you, please know that we are truly thankful for your support, but it is impossible to thank everyone by name on social media, and if for some reason we skipped saying Thank you we do apoligise for the oversight, we will try to do better in future!
We will be closed on Saturday 24 Sept due to the Public Holiday as well as Monday 26 Sept for some renovations.

Our shop will be going under construction in a week and we need to put up a drywall. We are desperate to get at least 8 x double skin pieces. We have to put up a wall of at least 4.7m. (Hight 2.7)
Anyone out there that might be able to assist with partial donation or to get it at a specail price from local suppliers?
Your assistance would be much appreciated.
Please note due to loadshedding we will be closing at 11:45 tomorrow.

We are looking for someone that would be willing to donate their time and baking skills to bake us some Xmas themed cookies to sell at upcoming fundraising events from November. We will supply the cookie cutters and hopefully get the ingredience sponsored too.
