❄️ Winter warmth delivered to Jabavu
Today our team went out to distribute blankets, beanies, and jerseys to families who need them most. Thanks to everyone who donated, YOU made this possible.
One lady told us:
"We are very happy to know that there are people who care for us, who bring us warm blankets in this cold winter. Our children got jerseys and beanies to keep warm."
This is what community looks like. People showing up for each other ❤️

Reimagining the Heart of Howick
Recently, Love uMngeni CEO Matt Hogarty presented the exciting vision for the proposed Central Park Development (Park/Bell/Harvard/Morling Street block). This is a bold step toward creating a safe, vibrant, people focused green space in the centre of town.
The vision includes rebuilding the amphitheatre for music concerts and community events, installing jungle gyms, a café, walking pathways, an outdoor gym, improved security, and creating a welcoming recreational space for families, residents, and visitors alike.
Great public spaces strengthen communities, improve wellbeing, stimulate local economic activity, and help create towns people are proud to call home.
We are calling on local businesses, government, partners, and community stakeholders to get involved in helping bring this vision to life. Together, we can build a space that serves generations to come.

🎓 On 19 May, we celebrated a Work Ready class graduation: 23 students who showed up, did the work, and are now stepping into their futures with confidence.
One graduate shared this:
"The way I think about myself and the way I look at opportunities is not the same as before. This course helped me a lot, and now I'm building myself to head towards a growth mindset."
That is what the Dream Centre is about. Not just skills: but mindset, dignity, and a pathway forward.
Congratulations to all our graduates. We are so proud of you 👏

Before joining the Street Store in February, Mpo Sehlabaka had lost hope in life. He spent most of his days sitting at home, struggling to survive, feeling like there was no way forward.
Then the Love uMngeni team visited his home.
They introduced him to the Street Store program. Mpo started collecting recycling to earn tokens.
He then completed the Crop Production Course and took part in the Green Light Survey, which became a turning point. It helped him realise: "I need to stand up and try again."
Today, Mpo is proudly employed as a security officer at Selfast.
"Love uMngeni helped restore my hope and gave me a second chance at life."
This is the Pathway to Purpose.
From survival → to dignity → to skills → to income.
We are so proud of you, Mpo 👏

📐 Maths transformation at scale | SIMI's 2026 impact so far
The Shaya Izibalo Maths Institute (SIMI) has had an extraordinary start to 2026.
Growth in reach:
• Expanded to Grade 9 (building on Grade 8 and 12 from last year; Grades 10 and 11 coming soon)
• Welcomed 9 new schools: now operating in 54 schools across 6 provinces
• Supporting 14000+ learners, up from 3500 learners last year
Results that inspire confidence:
• After just one year in the program, dozens of learners improved their maths performance by 20% or more
• Several learners improved by over 40%
• The highest recorded improvement was an incredible 45%
Grade 8 results have also been outstanding: reinforcing that early intervention is the most powerful starting point for long‑term maths success.
Love uMngeni is proud to partner with SIMI at Howick Secondary School. We have funded workbooks, video lessons, and teacher training for Grade 8, 9 and 12 learners this academic year.
But we want to do more.
We need to raise R48,960 to bring SIMI back in 2027 ensuring continuity and lasting impact.
How you can help:
• Sponsor one learner for R160 per year (covers their workbooks)
• Donate via EFT: Love uMngeni NPC | FNB Howick | Acc No: 627 747 27 039 | Branch Code: 220 725 (Ref: SIMI + Your Name)
• Donate online: https://loveumngeni.org.za/get-involved/
Want to fund a class or a whole school? Contact Matt: [email protected]
Let's build a generation that is not afraid of maths.

🤝 A partnership that keeps on giving. Thank you, Howick Preparatory School
Some partnerships go beyond a single donation. Howick Preparatory School is one of those partners.
Here’s what they’ve done for our community:
🧥 Love on a Hanger clothing drive
Their learners and families collected clothes that now serve two purposes:
• Providing dignity and warmth to those who have little
• Helping aspiring entrepreneurs start their own businesses through our Resellers Program
📚 R10,029.91 raised for SIMI Maths
This money will buy workbooks for a local high school, investing directly in learners’ maths comprehension and future opportunities.
We are deeply grateful to Kate Spencer and the entire Howick Prep community: staff, parents, and learners for showing what it means to be a true community partner.
Thank you ❤️
