ZOOM MEETING TODAY.
Hello artist friends
Today I told on zoom that we would love you all to write us one or more quotes about how it is to be a part of the association and what it means to you. We would love to use them for our social media’s like Instagram and maybe Facebook to make the posts more personal.
So please sent me a short text or quote about being a part of the association. MAYBE these questions can help you:
- how did you become a part of the association?
- what does it mean to you to be a part of the association?
- what is your motivation to paint?
- what are your favourite motifs?
Please sent it to [email protected]
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Day 4 of introducing our artists 🎨
INTRODUCING: CATHERINE LIZETTE DE BEER

I became a quadriplegic in my Grade 12 year (1997) due to a car accident and was cared for at home until January 2011 when I moved to Lat Wiel. I have been in a wheelchair for the past 21 years.

I was always interested in art and when I moved, I took up art classes from Mrs. Tersia Dorfling in February 2011.

These classes furthered my interest and I started looking forward to them. I had tutoring in color combinations, how to plan your picture according to scale on your canvas, to paint depth and shadows. I am still learning and I’m sure the learning process will continue as my skills as an artist develop.

DAY 2 of introducing our artists🧑🏽‍🦽
INTRODUCING : MARTIN SODOMS @martinsodomsmoutharts

Martin was born in 1974 in Voëlklip, Hermanus but spent most of his formative years in Voorstekraal a small town just outside Genadendal. Martin’s first job was as an assistant security manager before he got a clerical job at a private health care centre, Medicross. On Boxing Day 1996 Martin’s life changed forever when a diving accident left him paralyzed in his legs with limited use of his arms.

The small house that Martin lived in with his family was not wheelchair accessible and impossible for him to return to. Upon his release from hospital Martin moved to House Olivier, the rented house which was being utilized while The Andries Olivier Durbanville Quadriplegic Centre was being built on its current premises.

Martin was introduced to mouth painting just nine months after leaving hospital and quickly showed ability and talent. In 2002 Martin was accepted as a student with the Mouth and Foot Painters Association and in the subsequent years his undoubted talent has developed with Martin becoming a very accomplished artist. In 2014 he was promoted to associate member with the VDMFK. Which allowed him to travel to Spain a few years ago to be part of the 60th year celebrations of the VDMFK – WORLDWIDE. After twenty-three years living at The Andries Olivier Durbanville Quadriplegic Centre, Martin recently relocated to his own house with his long-time friend and fellow associate member Brenton Swartz.

I ‘am blessed to be part of this legacy and humbled by the rich history of the organization. Of all its achievements and what the VDMFK still strive to accomplish. To be part of all this, is God-send.
