The cucamelons came back in abundance this year. So we are having some with every meal now.
We have been wanting to make a place where our staff can have a break and enjoy their lunch in peace. Today we did the 1st leg. Very happy with the start.
Getting ready for next season’s veg. Four new raised beds delivered yesterday. Wish i could have afforded 10 more. Aw well. It is a start.
After 6 yrs we had two new sightings of butterflies today. When we first got here, there were none. We see quite a few different species now but both these were new to us. Total excitement. The black and white one is the common Diadem but could not find what the little orange ones are.
All of us at Eagle’s View sending you all best wishes for a wonderful blessed Christmas day.
The stables are nearing completion. Praying for dryer weather. Although doors and windows will only be made some time after Christmas, the horses should have some shelter soon.
It is the end of an era for us. Taken the last two year olds and the 3 yr old ewe to the abattoir. They have been hanging for a week. The two year olds got cut up and packed into the freezer today. Tomorrow that giant mama will be done. We appreciate what they are giving us in the way of food.
This little Wagtail saw himself in the mirror and was not impressed with the other bird looking back at him!!
Lol. Hendy totally confused Tank. So funny.
Loads of White Chayote Squash to prepare for fridge, freezer and planting. A few meals below to share how we use it...
Interesting. We certainly experienced this.
You are a bunch of dirty stinkers. It’s no good looking through the doors longingly, you’re staying outside... 🤣
Both Bear and Xena want the same toy, but it is far too hot to fight for it. So both just held on for dear life.
Sixty new Lohmann girls just arrived from Cape Town. Many of our chickens are getting old so made the decision to purchase some new young ladies. Welcome to your new home girls... 💜💙💚
Looks like the Swallows are getting ready to undertake their impressive 6000 mile migration between South Africa and the UK. They cover approximately 200 miles a day, generally at about 20mph. Safe travel guys...
Sit!!!
Bear.......come
Lexi........come
Xena......come
Tank.......come
🐀 There’s a mouse in the house! 🐀
Xena and Lexi have spent the past hour trying to find it under the stairs after it made a dash for safety. Stupid thing is, we saw it make its stealthy escape half an hour ago. Do we tell the dogs? 🤣
You do not see this very often. Hendy was cleaning the bottom field when she came upon these two snakes making babies.
She interrupted the process and send them in the field next door. 😁😁😁
Last of the beetroot harvested. Lots of cooking and picking today.
Harvested some Cucamelons and pickled some this morning. Now waiting 7 days before before they are ready to taste. Happy.
Our farm helper was viciously attacked yesterday afternoon in Langenhoven street. EIGHT cowards with golf clubs went for him as he was riding home. He was taken to hospital by the police and was kept there overnight. It was the the end of the month and he had just replaced his broken phone with a new one. They cut the rucksack from his back which also contained his wife’s tablet (that he was temporarily using until replacing his phone), plus clothes that we’d given to him for her. We are very heart sore as they robbed him of his bike that he loved to bits and uses as his main form of transport. We would appreciate it if our friends in George could take a look at the photos of his bike and let us know if you see it anywhere. Thank you...
We harvested a few of our Glass Gem Corn today and their breathtaking colours must be seen to be believed. Glass Gem Corn is an amazingly vibrant strain of rainbow coloured corn. It is a type of ‘flint corn’ which is grown not for eating off the cob, but for making popcorn, or grinding into cornflour. Some grow it to use as a stunning decoration because of the artistic colours...
Lexi is shedding her coat so we gave her a thorough brush this morning. Can’t believe all this hair is from one dog! Xena thought she would look after the pile 🤣
Food forest starting to produce some fabulous vegetables. Going to be eating marrows for weeks!
Wishing our customers, friends and family a very merry Christmas. May beautiful moments and happy memories surround you with joy...
The cooler weather this summer has given us an abundance of roses at our quaint seating area. Looking forward to all the new little buds flowering soon... 🌹
A beautiful little boy has joined our flock of Dorpers. Only born yesterday, yet suckling strongly and frolicking around the pasture like a champ...
Thought we’d share a photo of this Milkweed Locust that we found climbing around our plants. It stands out with its striking colours....
A few little critters we photographed around the farm...
There is just nothing like our farm eggs. The taste is superb and the colour just wonderful.
Our last handful of homegrown radishes which we just brought in. If we realized they’d be so fantastic, we would’ve planted more. More seeds going in the ground today in the hope for a second harvest...
Lexi is on heat again so has become all motherly! She started the day by making sure the baby washes her face properly after breakfast!! 😂
It must be spring as the chicks have started to arrive... 💜
I think it’s obvious who the naughty dogs are in this picture. Bear, you’re always the perfect gentleman! 🥰
