Our goal is always to create certainty with our clients as soon as possible after the event - and to ensure that we have our staff and suppliers at the location as soon as possible. Rebus STiS Bluestar made history once again when they received the award for best Short Term Insurance Bluestar of the year (nationally) at the Bluestar Conference held in Cape Town in October. The award was handed over by Lizé Lambrechts, CEO of Santam Insurance to Francois Harmse (Bluestar Director) and Nolene Harmse (Bluestar Manager) at the prestigeous event.
Francois said: "It is truly a blessing and a great honour for us to hold this title for the first time ever in the history of short term insurance within Sanlam. The challenge is now on to stay at the top!"

The scene in George today 😞. It seems that the fires are now contained in George, but has moved to Saasveld and Karatara. Our hearts go out to the affected families and our thanks to the brave firefighters and volunteers putting their lives on the line to keep us safe.

The Western Cape Disaster Management Centre has been activated on a limited scale due to the ongoing active fires in George in the Outeniqua Pass area.
Outeniqua Pass remains closed until further notice.
STATUS OF FIRE
Outeniqua Fire remains active in area Waboomskraal and on slopes of Outeniqua Mountain above Witfontein Plantation. Fire line behind Fernridge has moved into the plantation, ground crews are busy with containment. All other fire lines are safe and contained at present. Smoke due to smouldering backburns from yesterday and wind direction which has changed to push smoke over CBD.
Aerial Support: Two huey helicopters and two fixed wing bombers are in place to render aerial support, SANDF Oryx helicopter will be at George Airport from 08h30. All aerial support relying on weather conditions, currently poor visibility due to smoke.
Additional resources on route – 95 persons from Working on Fire.
Resources will exceed 300 persons by this afternoon.
Please put the following measures in place:
Keep windows and doors closed until further notice as protection against smoke and heat.
Keep pets indoors where possible.
Move garden furniture that is flammable under cover where possible.
Elderly and persons with health issues who are able to voluntarily remove themselves from the areas adjacent to slopes of the mountain to please do so.
All donations towards the firefighting efforts must please be delivered to the George Fire Brigade at Mitchell Street.
Thank you for all the donations so far. We are in need of the following:
• smaller bottles of water (not 5L) for the firefighters
• Juices / Energades
• Lip Ice Vaseline
• Wet Wipes
• Rehydrate
• Chocolates / Energy bars / Bar Ones

The Western Cape Disaster Management Centre has been activated in a limited capacity due to the ongoing active fires in the Outeniqua Mountain, George.
Actions taken for today
A total of 9km of backburns are currently being put in place with approximately 5km already completed and a further backburn to be actioned tonight along the top of the Witfontein Plantation in order to protect vulnerable neighbourhoods.
The wind direction is expected to remain Southerly tonight which is to the advantage of the firefighting teams and which will push the smoke and the flames up against the mountain. Resources have been allocated and ground teams are in place to monitor and are actively work on suppressing fire lines.
All donations towards the firefighting efforts must please be delivered to the George Fire Brigade at Mitchell Street, behind Outeniqua Primary School.
Thank you for all the donations so far. We are in need of the following:

HEROLD FIRE UPDATE 28/10

The Herold Veldfire remains active. Favourable weather conditions are in place and a backburn will be implemented today from the railway line up the mountain. Resources have been allocated and ground teams are in place to monitor. Aerial support will be sent in as soon as the weather allows.
The public is urgently requested to refrain from recreational hiking today on any unofficial hiking trails through plantations. All official hiking trails remain closed by CapeNature until further notice.
No current threat to people and infrastructure.
A huge thank you from all of the partners involved to those organisations and member of the public who have so kindly delivered food and beverages for distribution.
IMPORTANT POINTS TO TAKE NOTE OF:
1. Please note that the use of drones on nature reserves is illegal and they will be confiscated. Drones pose a serious risk to air support
2. Montagu Pass remains closed to vehicles.
3. Outeniqua Pass open to motorists.
4. CapeNature has closed all official hiking trails. Please refrain from hiking or cycling in and around George Mountains over the next few days.

The Herold Veldfire remains active over a wide area.
Eastern flank currently visible with flames slowly burning down George Peak.
Ground teams are in place with spotters on duty to keep watch throughout the night.
Please note that ground crews are actively suppressing lines where possible.
Weather conditions remain favourable for back burns tomorrow. No current threat to infrastructure.

GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Garden Route District Municipality have given the latest information regarding the fires in the Garden Route areas:
Vermaaklikheid, Hessequa
Current situation:
Mopping-up operations are currently underway. Minor flare-ups throughout the day occurred - this was expected due to hot weather conditions.
At 17:00 a Recce flight took place and it was confirmed that all fire-lines looked safe and contained.
A 24-hour monitoring period started at 18:00 today. This involves the patrolling of the previously active fire-lines.
\At 14:00 today, bombers completed aerial attacks in the Hessequa area. They then moved over to the George municipal area. A WoF chopper also moved to the George area at around 17:00. The private helicopter of Cobus Crouse completed its duties at 18:00.

A final briefing session by the Incident Commander will take place at 08:00 tomorrow morning. If all goes according to plan, the FCP at Vermaaklikheid will be dissolved after the morning briefing.
The GRDM team plans to move to the George area tomorrow.

Many of the firefighters work more than 12 hours a day to contain fires - we must not forget the willpower, perseverance and selfless efforts of fire fighters who serve to protect our communities and the environment.
George
The veldfire remains within the mountains and poses no immediate threat to town of George. The fire is being closely monitored by all roleplayers.
The Outeniqua Pass between Oudtshoorn and George was closed, due to Herold Fire, Motorists were advised to use an alternative route, via Mossel Bay (R328).
Confirmed now via Incident Room that closure of Outeniqua Pass reversed. Road is open again.
No other roads in or around George are affected in terms of visibility.
