Operating as usual

The unfortunate truth of owning and running a business. Running a business is really hard.
What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid-back people. People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore. Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.
You have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails. Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner..... All whilst being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend... There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.
Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support small businesses… and hopefully more of us will stick around!

I copied this from another small business owner that I support.

We are issuing this sooner rather than later. Extremely cold conditions are expected on Tuesday where single-digit Maximum temperatures are expected across the country. On Wednesday morning we could see temperature well below freezing with severe frost in places.

⚠ These could be the coldest days of the year!

Level 4. Trading as normal,

21 June 2021 marks winter in the Southern Hemisphere. This means that today is the shortest day and the longest night of the year.

🌞 Good news for the summer lovers is that from tomorrow the days will gradually become longer.

❄ Good news for winter lovers is that today also marks Astronomical Winter which means the coldest part of winter is still to come.

Have a wonderful winter solstice!

This image from the camera at Sani Mountain Lodge at the top of Sani Pass shows just how much snow is on the ground in that area.

❄️ SNOW UPDATE: We've posted a page with the best snow photos from the Eastern Cape, Lesotho and the Drakensberg this week and have included an update on the details of the last day of snow expected today.

There is a significant amount of snow in the southeast of Lesotho but the very low level snow from yesterday has mostly melted. If you are in an area that still has low-level snow please send us photos as soon as possible so that we can post them for everyone.

If you are heading in the direction of these conditions, be sure to dress very warmly (see our new excellent gear supplier on our website) and make sure you have warm and waterproof footwear. Dress in layers and make sure you take dry clothes and especially extra socks with you. A warm hat or beanie is essential, as are gloves.

Driving in snow, even if it's very light, is very challenging and it is easy to lose control of the vehicle so slow down and keep a significant distance behind other cars.

Be sure to take warm blankets or sleeping bags and lots of food and water in the vehicle with you in case you get stuck.

If you do encounter snow along the way, please respect private property and especially farm fences. Farming is challenging enough without having to deal with damage from people chasing snow.

Please be sure to send photos and videos to us via whatsapp to +27 81 251 8029 rather than tagging us since we don't have the capacity to check every channel when it's busy.
