We are finding this type of fix more and more often.

This is not the correct way to blank of a pipe. Most of the time this type of fix causes a leak on your sprinklers and a loss in pressure on that line.

It can mostly be identified by puddling around the area

Up⬆️, Down⬇️, and All Around 🔄 explains the purpose behind each Macro Element (NPK) listed on a bag of fertilizer. These are the three most important elements needed for plant growth.

Up⬆️ Down⬇️ and All Around🔄 will help you remember that Nitrogen (N ), promotes plant growth above ground. Nitrogen (N ) promotes the green leafy growth of foliage and lush green lawn. Nitrogen (N ) helps with the formation of proteins that the cells within the grass needs to grow. Without sufficient Nitrogen, your lawn can suffer stunted growth and yellowing. Grasses love Nitrogen (N ), but it is important to strike a balance between strong leaf growth and strong roots capable of supporting grass as well.

Phosphorus (P) is the middle number and is very important for germination and establishing growth below ground - promoting a healthy root systems. Phosphorus (P) is the lowest percentage of the overall NPK needed by grass. Phosphorus (P) moves slowly through the soil, and is not used in large amounts, so only small amounts need be applied.

Potassium (K), the last number on the bag, is important for overall plant health. Potassium (K) assists in better water and nutrient uptake while helping synthesize proteins and starches. Potassium (K) helps the grass build thicker and stronger cell walls within the plant tissue enabling it to withstand stresses, such as heat, cold, pests, and disease stress.

5 Water-Saving Irrigation Tips

1. Water Deeply, Not Frequently

When water is applied too quickly, allot is lost to runoff. Irrigating slowly allows water to soak into the ground. Allow irrigation to run long enough to wet soils to a depth of about 15cm. Deep irrigation encourages healthier root systems. Watering too frequently and too quickly encourages shallow root systems that are more susceptible to drought and heat. Water less for longer and use a low flow rate sprinkler head. Finally, adjust irrigation according to plant age, older plants have deeper root systems and often require less frequent irrigation.

2. Reduce Run-Off

Run-off occurs when water is applied too heavily, either by natural rainfall or irrigation. Water flowing over impervious surfaces such as driveways and sidewalks is another common source of run-off. You can reduce run-off by:

• Aligning sprinkler heads to avoid irrigating roads, sidewalks, and driveways.

• Using low volume delivery systems to irrigate slowly.

• Replace concrete walkways and other hard surfaces with pervious paving or mulch to allow water infiltration.

3. Maintain Sprinklers and Irrigation Systems

We all know how much water a leaking toilet can waste. In the garden, leaky valves and broken sprinkler heads can also waste huge amounts of water. Regular maintenanceon the irrigation system can save you money on your waterbill. Look for leaks and broken, or jammed sprinkler heads.

4. Mulch Trees and Garden Beds

When it comes to water, mulch reduces evaporation and works to retain soil moisture. Organic material will break down over time and improve water retention quality of the soil. Mulch will also help beautify your flower beds and help control soil erosion.

5. Invest in smart Technology

If you are using a manual irrigation system, consider upgrading to a “smart” controller or installing a rain sensor. Smart water controllers measure weather and soil moisture conditions to automatically adjust watering schedules according to your garden's current conditions. Rain sensors are inexpensive and can be retrofitted to most irrigations systems. Adjust irrigation systems for current conditions. Try to avoid the habit of “set it and forget it,” as plant needs change throughout the year.

Whether you are tech-savvy or traditional, these simple management practices will save you money in garden maintenance.

You can change a hydrangea's color by altering the pH level of the soil.

A more alkaline soil will result in pinker blooms, while more acidity will produce blue blooms. To coax your plant to the blue side, add more organic matter to your soil, like egg shells and coffee grounds (though the acidity in used coffee grounds can vary greatly, so you might try a high-acid fertilizer, too). The change won't happen overnight, but eventually you should succeed in manipulating your soil's pH level.
