🌲🌲🍓🍓Moringa Tree🍓🍓🌲🌲

Moringa plants (Moringaceae); sometimes commonly referred to as drumstick trees, horseradish trees, or ben oil trees; are native to the Himalayan foothills of India and Bangladesh. Moringa plants have long been used and revered in their native habitat for their amazing nutritious and medicinal qualities.

Every part is edible:
The leaves can be eaten like spinach, the seed pods are similar to green beans and the roots are like horseradish.

It purifies water:
When crushed they become a natural binder and can be used in water to catch fine substances such as bacteria, salt and other impurities as they will clump together and can be more easily removed.

It is extremely nutritious:
The plant is full of essential nutrients, including vitamins A, B, C, D, E as well as minerals including calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and selenium. For every 100 grams, Moringa tree leaves have nearly as much Vitamin C as a navel orange and three times that in the pods.

It will give you an energy boost:
One serving of Moringa provides three times the amount of iron of spinach. A lack of iron is called iron deficiency anemia and causes you to have low energy and feel exhausted.Having a poor diet can result in anemia, therefore Moringa could be a solution to solving this issue for a lot of people.

It has healing powers:
There have been numerous studies around the positive health effects of eating Moringa tree, including that it: protects the liver, treats stomach disorders, is an antibacterial agent, has cancer fighting properties, treats neurodegenerative diseases, improves bone health, boosts immunity, has immunosuppressive properties, protects the cardiovascular system, treats diabetes, treats asthma, prevents stone formation, protects against kidney problems, heals wounds, treats edema, reduces hypertension, improves eye health, treats anemia and sickle cell disease. Orthophytum 'gurkenii'
a Terrestrial species from Brazil. The thick leaves are chocolate-brown with broken silver-white zig-zag banding. Resembling a Cryptanthus in general shape, but larger and more arching, it produces a very tall green inflorescence with burr-like floral bracts and small plantlets. Pups are also produced from the base of the plant like a typical bromeliad. Once very rare and costly.

Amorphophallus Konjac
This unusual, hardy, tuberous aroid has one giant divided leaf on top of a 1m tall,green and purple mottled,fleshy stalk.
When old enough, the tuber produces a fascinating very big flower (up to 1m) resembling a giant vase made from purple vinyl used for cheap ‘70s car seats.
Also known as Konjac Love lily

Seemannia Gymnostoma
A summer growing member of the Gesneriaceae (the Gloxinia family and it was formerly thought of as a Gloxinia in fact) from Bolivia where it is found at around 2,500m.
The plant grows to 60cm and flowers with gorgeous, pink-spotted, pink flowers in a succession that starts in December and continues to bloom until the beginning of March making an amazingly long-lasting display.
It likes to be placed in full sun. A very humus-rich soil, but one with good drainage, is best. It is not a difficult plant, but it will thrive, grow larger and flower more freely, the more you pay attention to its compost and feeding.

Painted Leaf Begonia

The Painted-Leaf begonia aka Rex begonia [reks be-GON-yuh] with their large, colorful leaves help make them perfect indoor plants for the window garden.

Painted-Leaf begonia may reach a height of 25 to 60 cm. It produces oval or heart-shaped fancy leaves with interesting coloration.
The leaves are large and multicolored. The outer edges of the leaf may appear dark green while the inner parts are a mixture of pink and white.
Shades of red, purple, bronze, black, and silver may also appear.
Begonia leaves are often six to 30cm across. While it’s an evergreen plant, it may shed several leaves during the colder months.
Water frequently throughout the summer, ensuring that the soil never dries out completely. In the winter, water the plant sparingly.

Here are some Gardening tips to help you through the month of December

Coreopsis - Sunshine for your garden

If you're looking for a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant, long-blooming flower to fill a bed or line a border, coreopsis plants (Coreopsis spp.) are a perfect choice. With more than 80 varieties of coreopsis, there's a varietal to suit every garden design.

Coreopsis plants will grow and bloom best in full sun, which means at least six to eight hours of direct light on most days.

New coreopsis plants need regular water to keep the soil evenly moist (but not soggy) until they are established.

Polka Dot for your House.

Begonia maculata, or Polka Dot begonia as it’s often called, is a splashy show-stopper that looks fantastic with it’s olive green leaves and contrasting spots. It’s a houseplant that is likely to turn heads in your home, and thankfully it isn’t too difficult to care for.

Begonia maculata needs bright indirect light, well-aerated soil that dries a bit between waterings, fertilization every 2-4 weeks, and temperatures of 18°C to 30°C. They will enjoy a spray of water on their leaves regularly and need semi-regular pruning, but they’re very easy to propagate.

Amaryllis - a must have for every garden

Of all flowering bulbs, amaryllis are the easiest to bring to bloom. This can be accomplished indoors or out, and over an extended period of time. They thrive in semi-shade areas outdoors but also look spectacular indoors when flowering.
The amaryllis originated in South America's tropical regions and has the botanical name Hippeastrum.
The large flowers and ease with which they can be brought to bloom make amaryllis popular and in demand worldwide.
The amaryllis comes in many beautiful varieties including various shades of red, white, pink, salmon and orange.

After-Flowering. After the amaryllis has stopped flowering, it can be made to flower again. Cut the old flowers from the stem after flowering, and when the stem starts to sag, cut it back to the top of the bulb.

They are herbaceous plants with woody, hollow stems, and can grow to a height of between 20cm and 2m, depending on the type and cultivator. With over 30 stunning varieties to choose from.

Majestic Dipladenia

Dipladenia is an intriguingly bushy plant with an unusual, downward growth habit. Initially reaching upwards, once the plant reaches a certain height its vines begin to cascade downwards. This makes it ideal for planters, containers and hanging baskets as well as the edge of raised beds or borders.

The small, pointy foliage of the dipladenia is often a glossy shade of deep green. This complements the plant’s fragrant, tubular flowers. Depending on the variety, the plant produces flowers in shades of light to dark pink, deep red or white.

When watering, don’t overwater the plants. Overly wet soil can cause root rot. In general watering well once every 8 to 10 days, depending on the weather conditions, is fine. During warmer periods the plants may require more frequent watering.

Plants thrive in a semi-shade or filtered sun environment.

Carnivorous Plant Open Day!!

This upcoming weekend we will be hosting a carnivorous plant open day in partnership with Cultivo Carnivores - Carnivorous Plants . The 13 and 14th of October 2021 from 10h00 till 14h00 on both days for any questions.

Phalaenopsis Orchid

Numerous elegant flowers gracefully wreathed over one or two arching stems resemble moths in flight, and give this orchid its name – the moth orchid. It is a plant which gives the home or office owner double delight. The first joy is to see the beautiful moth orchid for the first time, and the second is in the realisation that it is still flowering after up to three months.

Light:
Medium Light conditions (no direct sunlight), bright room
Phalaenopsis enjoy a cooler environment

Watering:
Run water through the pot for a few minutes to wet the roots thoroughly at least once per week. Spray leaves and flowers with a light mist spray of water in between watering.
