Last weekend at SANSA Hartebeespoort, our Creative Technologies team, Techne-cality, went head-to-head with top engineering universities across Africa in the Cars for Mars competition. While everyone else brought standard designs, we brought Hank 2.0, a bright pink tank featuring custom-cut MDF gearboxes, dual-flange 3D-printed treads, live camera feeds, and AI object recognition. They called us mad, but Hank brought home the Continental Award for Most Creative Rover!
Even though a blown Traxxas 550 motor stopped us right before the finish line on the traversal mission, months of late nights paid off in a big way. We even got to chat with The Citizen, SABC, and news teams from Nigeria! Huge thanks to our sponsor: for backing our wild ideas! Shoutout to William Basson and all the incredible Open Window students who gave it their all.
Film screening hosted by the Film Arts department and the Embassy of Argentina. Thank you to Tomas Gomez Bustillo for allowing us to screen his film at our cammpus.

Huge news from our Creative Technologies department! William Basson and a talented team of students have built a fully functional Mars rover prototype to compete in the Cars 4 Mars - African Rover Challenge!
By combining STEM principles, AI, and advanced robotics, the team took on one of the continent's most demanding engineering tasks—proving that the future of space technology is being built right here in Africa. Join us in celebrating their hard work and dedication as they engineer the future!

On Wednesday 17 September, a group of Open Window students, staff and art enthusiasts came together on our JHB campus for a relaxed and playful evening of crafting. Each participant was given a laser-cut template which was designed and fabricated in-house by our staff. After assembling the template, attendees used paper mâché to create a robust lamp to add mood lighting to their home or office. Those present had fun networking, discussing art and design, and simply shooting the breeze - unwinding after a day of work.
