Let’s talk about something people often say:
“You need connections to get into the City of Cape Town.”
My story says otherwise.
In 2018, I arrived in Cape Town still in school. I didn’t know anyone except relatives. No network. No “inside help.” Just me starting over.
I registered on the City of Cape Town database and started applying for opportunities like everyone else.
From 2018 to 2023, I kept going. I stayed in school. I kept applying when opportunities came up. I didn’t stop just because I didn’t see results immediately.
In 2023, an apprenticeship was advertised across the city. Thousands of people applied. I applied too and I was selected as one of the hundred and something candidates.
No connections. No payments. No shortcuts.
Just consistency, timing and education that I stayed committed to.
And even now, I’m still in the process still studying, still growing through this opportunity.
I haven’t arrived yet but I am living proof that it can happen without the things people assume you need.
Happy 3rd anniversary to me

I was beyond exhausted, mentally and physically, so I chose to go home, rest, recharge, and pour back into myself. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is pause and breathe for a while.
