We had a fantastic friendly club day at Bellville City Football Club this past weekend. Everything was so well run and on point - it was fantastic to see the emphasis on the CTTLFA campaign and see how the home side had gone to great efforts to keep a distance between the spectators and the playing field. Certainly a bar set for us and we'll be looking to implement some learnings at our own venue in the weeks and months ahead ๐ช
We wish all our Muslim members, supporters and their families a blessed Ramadan! ๐
ASHER, DEARNALEY SET TO BUY PSL CLUB, RELOCATE TO RONDEBOSCH AND NAME MAGIC RYGERSDAL.
In a startling move, local football administrator Justin Asher and former player George Dearnaley have apparently struck a deal to buy a mid-table PSL club and relocate it to the Cape.
Current club Junior Chairman, Luther Muller, is set to be announced as General Manager in the coming days.
The former Amazulu superstar and 1992 NSL Golden Boot winner is no stranger to the local game. He began the Magic Football project some years ago where his club participated in the local ABC Motsepe League. After selling the franchise, allegedly due to feeling he wanted to play rather than coach, he set his sights on a new multi-million Rand sporting complex on the property of Western Province Cricket Club in Rondebosch where he plans to focus on the every growing game in women's football.
Meanwhile, just a few kilometers down the road, Rygersdal Football Club have all the necessary facilities ready to house a professional setup, including a well-mantained cricket pitch which is said to be used as an obstacle to overcome their LFA opposition from time to time.
Having lost out to Saxon Rovers in last year's league chase, Rygersdal's management have set the bar higher than expected. Asher was said to be furious at Allan Roman's side winning the playoffs [for a spot in the Regional Third Division] and wanted "one up" on his rival from Royal Road.
Magic Rygersdal FC is said to be based out of both Rondebosch-based complexes with matches likely to be played at a new 20-000 seater stadium the joint-venture hopes to build on the Rygersdal B-Field, just off Liesbeek Parkway.
It's not yet clear who will play for the club but rumours are rife that we could see Dearnaley upfront for the new outfit while Muller could well captain the side until the squad is settled in the City.
Although there's no clear indication yet how the Asher-Dearnaley consortium will actually afford to buy a Premier Soccer League club, it would seem that a large portion of funds will come from Dearnaley who has already been spotted selling his Amazulu, Hellenic and Seven Stars branded underwear on second-hand clothing websites in a bid to apparently raise the much needed funds.
This is a developing story. Some parts are true except for the parts of the story that are not.
It's our first home friendly of the season as we battle it out against Ubuntu Football on home turf.
As we get older, we often forget the joys of football and the happiness it brings. Here's young Diego taking us back along that path, and through his spirited celebration allowing us to reminisce in the joys of football.
Coach Ashraf doesn't forget his foundations as he gives the U12 team some last minute tactical input before their Salt River Blackpool tournament Round of 32 fixture.
It was a valiant effort by our boys, and two young ladies, but unfortunately we were knocked out after a 1-0 loss against Young Bafana Soccer.
At this stage, it's bittersweet, but this team won the hearts of the spectators with a phenomenal performance.
A great start to the Salt River Blackpool tournament for our Under 12s who got off to a flyer with a 5-0 win in their first game. Goodluck and all the best for the upcoming fixtures!

REST IN PEACE, JOE!
The 4th Moment rightly refer to him as "Mr Coke Cup" - he knew absolutely everything about the competition and had an incredible memory too! This interview was his last - and what an incredible one it is!
He wrote every story with passion and tried to cover as much local and amateur football as he possibly could...He provided a platform for many...I'm sure there are plenty of local sports journalists who looked up to him and no doubt he leaves a legacy.
On behalf of all of us at Rygersdal Football Club we wish to share our condolences with Joe's family and friends at this sad time.

COKE CUP SEMI FINAL
---
FIRST TEAM: 2 - 1 win over Woodlands United
UNDER 18: 2 - 1 loss to Hellenic
It was a fantastic day of football at the Westridge Sports Complex yesterday with both our Under 18's and First Team having participated in the biggest amateur cup competition, the SAFA Cape Town Coke Cup.
Although the U18s went into the break with the score at 1 -1, a second half goal from Hellenic saw them go 2 - 1 up and ultimately take control of the game from there. It was definitely an even game for the most part, with both sides having good opportunities to go ahead before the half-time break. Coached by our club's former Under 18 coach, Hellenic's experience likely helped them across the line as they took control of the second half and showed why they make deserving finalists.
The first team took the field with the Woodlands fans watching on in their numbers from the hills. Playing with the strong wind in the first half, we hit the post off a free kick and had a couple more chances go astray. Woodlands pounced on cross into our box as the wind held it up in the air and allowed them to header home the opening goal. Moments before the first half ended, we struck back and equalised. It was a tough start to the second half but we eventually scored to bring the game back into our favour and make it 2-1. Even though we had multiple chances toward the end, the score ended as is.
We're proud of every single player who represented our club in this season's competition; and wish our First Team all the best for the final!
Thanks to our sponsors, Cloudworx, Melomed and LPG!
All eyes this weekend will be on both our Under 18's and First Team as they participate together, for the first time ever, in the Coca-Cola Cup Semi Finals.

Today saw the final league game for our Under 18s. For a few of them, it'll be the last time they play junior football as they transition to Seniors next season. The squad, who play in the Coke Cup semi final next weekend, have ended the short league format unbeaten with an 8 - 1 win over Edgemead at home this afternoon.
