Stellenbosch Business School students visited companies last week to relate their theory to practice.

Marsunet Horn, who was part of the group that went to the 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐞𝐬, shares her experience:

"Thank you so much for an incredible MBA industry visit to the Dry Goods Distribution Centre, Checkers Hyper at Fairbridge Mall and ShopriteX offices.

It was astonishing to see all the details, logistics and behind-the-scenes operations that go into getting a product on a store shelf or delivered to your door.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to show us around and answer all our questions. Also, a big thank you to the delicious platters and amazing coffee we were treated to at the Checkers coffee shop."

Christelle Cronje, Alumni and Stakeholder Manager of the School, accompanied a group to 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥. Here she shares more about their industry visit:

"Students thoroughly enjoyed the exciting and varied visit to your business environment and learned so much about the wide-spread interests and operations environment of Distell, especially the innovation and modernisation of an environment that started almost 50 – 60 years ago. A huge value-add was your vast knowledge about the industry, strategy, marketing, the pending merger/acquisition and a glimpse into how global business approaches this. This industry/business immersive learning opportunity is a memorable and valued experience for our students."

The Alumni Association's Administrative Officer, Lizelle Kannemeyer, took a group to 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜 in Stellenbosch. Here is what she had to say:

"Thank you so much for the wonderful opportunity to share the Wine Arc environment with the MBA students of the Stellenbosch Business School.

Social Impact is high on our agenda at the school, and your exceptional business model for social impact provides a unique opportunity to showcase excellence in this sector.

This industry/business immersive learning opportunity is a memorable and valued experience for our students.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience and warmly hosting our students. The overall feedback was so positive that students did not want to leave! We highly value you as a partner and look forward to the next collaboration opportunity."

Like all of you, we at the School are sad and dismayed by the findings of the Khampepe Commission but unfortunately not totally surprised. Although much of the content of the report related to residences and undergraduates at Stellenbosch University there are other themes in terms of inclusion of Black students and staff, micro aggressions, and the institutional culture which are highly relevant for us.

We in the School’s Transformation Committee wanted to acknowledge the report and our hope that it can be a catalyst for change. We will provide an opportunity to share together for our students and staff and we are planning a hybrid public event on Wednesday, 16 November at 17:00 with Prof Jonathan Jansen and Dr Armand Bam to which you are all welcome.

You can register to attend the event in-person or online here: http://bit.ly/3WXigMa

Quiet quitting is becoming common in the workforce, employers who take employee mental health and work-life balance into account have more success in staving off this new phenomenon.

“Signs of a quiet quitter include missing meetings and deadlines, meeting only the minimum of performance standards, arriving late or leaving early, isolating from a team culture or withdrawing from team and social activities, and showing less commitment, passion or enthusiasm for their work,’ says Dr Natasha Winkler-Titus, Senior Lecturer at Stellenbosch Business School.

Catch Dr Natasha Winkler-Titus on air this week as she unpacks various contradictory aspects to this trend. Be sure to also diarise the 8th of November 2022 for our special Leader’s Angle Series event where Dr Winkler-Titus and other panelist will discuss further on this topic.
