Well done indeed!

Cheers to a week of stepping outside comfort zones in order to challenge my own limits, and meeting great people at the same time. The SA Masters Swimming National Championships has been a (often painful) jol! All the pool sprinting (eish!) culminated in a 3km open water swim today, where I was happy to go sub-44, thanks to some serious competition, and my favourite suit 💪 Here’s to many more! 🥂 .

Thanks to everyone for participating in the 37th SAMS CHAMPS 1km and 3km Open Water Swim.

While the rain may have put a number of contestants off, those who made it out to Elgin on Sunday enjoyed their swim, despite the slight drizzle in the morning. The water temperature, at 24 o C, was very pleasant to swim in. Elgin River lodge also ensured that there were a number of fires in the firepits to cut off the morning chill and a good supply of hot beverages and sustaining eats.

Derrick, Jean and their team did an excellent job of setting out the course, registering swimmers, ensuring the safety of all the swimmers, creating a fun vibe for the competitors and their supporters and running the prize giving.

Appreciation goes to Excelsior Wine Estate and Drakensberg Canopy Tours for the lucky draw prizes.

It was great to end off our week of swimming, being out in the beautiful Elgin valley and experiencing the fun, fitness and friendship that is masters swimming - together!

Calling all Masters Swimmers!
We invite you to participate in the 37th South African Masters Swimming National Championships to be held in Cape Town 2022.

If you are new to masters swimming - or dusting of your gear after a few crazy covid years - and are not already registered for the 2020/2021 season, you need to register with SSA via your local swim club before 15th Jan 2022 to be eligible to participate in the LC 50m pool events, however non-registered swimmers may participate in the Open Water events 1km or 3km.

EVENT DETAILS:
The Long Course pool events are being held at the UWC Swimming Pool from Wednesday 9th March to Saturday 12th March 2022 and the Open Water swimming events are being held at the Elgin River Lodge dam on Sunday 13th March 2022.

After the disappointing news that the Newlands Swimming pool will not be ready in time for our event in March 2022, there has been much uncertainty regarding the hosting of the 37th SA Masters Swimming Championships.

A recent survey was done with regard to the proposed venue change to UWC and the subsequent increase in registration fees due to increase pool hire costs!

Based on the survey results - we are happy to announce that it is all systems go!

The 37th SAMS LC Championships 2022 will now be hosted at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) Indoor Swimming Pool.

The UWC COVID-19 Safety Protocols will only permit fully vaccinated swimmers and spectators to enter the University Grounds. (We are in contact with the University regarding possible applications for vaccination exemption and will keep you informed.)

Please note: The Happy Hour and Gala dinner evening and Open Water Swim will continue at the same venues.

From the survey, plus those who have already registered, a minimum of 270 competitors are expected.
Due to the increased cost of the University Swimming Pool and lower numbers expected, the registration fee has increased to R450.

A R250.00 rebate is offered to those requiring financial assistance.

The registration deadline has been extended to 20th January 2022.
