The Faculty of Education is located on three campuses namely, Bloemfontein, South Campus and Qwaqwa.
Our vision is of a Faculty that affirms the dignity of its students, its staff and the community with which it engages, and draws on their diversity as a source of strength. It is recognised nationally and internationally for its scholarship and for its contextualised understanding of education. The Faculty visibly contributes to the social transformation of the broader society.
The distinguished Prof. Douglas Darko Agyei, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology Education at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana delivered the keynote address at the 6th Annual Postgraduate Research Conference.

The Faculty of Education is holding its 6th Annual Postgraduate Research Conference for Masters and Doctoral students from August 30 to 31, 2024. The event is designed to offer students a platform for knowledge exchange, networking, professional growth, exposure to various perspectives, and increased motivation and engagement.
In a quest to promote the University of the Free State's Vision 130 of being a leading institution in research, the Faculty of Education hosted a colloquium on TVET education. This colloquium serves to disseminate the findings of a study led by the University of the Free State on lecturer development for Technical and Vocational Education and Training in South Africa. The UFS researchers in the Department of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Technology Education engaged with stakeholders from the Department of Higher Education and Training, the TVET sector, researchers from other universities, and international TVET researchers from Ghana.
SANRAL University Tour presents opportunities to UFS students
The UFS Faculty of Education, in partnership with the South African National Roads Agency (Sanral), recently hosted the SANRAL University Tour, which provided UFS students with valuable insights into and opportunities in road engineering.
The event that recently took place at the Equitas Auditorium on the Bloemfontein Campus was themed ‘Engineering your future through roads’.

The Teaching Practice Directorate in the Faculty of Education hosted the Evaluation Training Workshop. This workshop aims to
• equip lecturers with effective evaluation techniques and tools
• equip lecturers with the knowledge and tools to evaluate student performance during teaching practice effectively.
• ensure consistency and fairness in student evaluations across the faculty
• guide lecturers on how to provide constructive feedback that fosters student development.
By hosting this Evaluation Training Workshop, the Teaching Practice Director Prof Thuthukile Jita wants to enhance the quality of student evaluations in the Faculty of Education, leading to better teaching practices and student outcomes.

Day 2 of the 6th Annual Staff Conference started with a panel discussion where delegates from different disciplines in the Faculty of Education engaged on various themes about the use of Artificial intelligence and digitalisation of education in Higher Learning.
Prof Loyiso Jita, the Dean of the Faculty of Education gives a keynote address. In his presentation, he elucidated that “this year’s conference continues to showcase the diversity in the faculty, in terms of research, languages, academics, cultures, voices, disciplines, etc. We are proud of this tradition of diversity in our scholarship. We continue to embrace the UFS values of Excellence, Innovation & Impact, Accountability, Care, Social Justice, and Sustainability”.
The Faculty of Education, Research, Engagement and Internalisation Office hosts the 6th Annual Staff Conference under the theme “Sharing our Excellence in Research and Engaged Scholarship” at UFS, South Campus. The Staff Conference is open to all full-time staff members and Post-Doctoral Fellows in the Faculty of Education. This conference aims to:
• provide a space for staff to showcase their research work – i.e. to showcase some published and/or unpublished works that may have received recognition in journals and/or conferences locally and internationally.
• provide a platform for staff to share experiences and compare notes on research.
• create opportunities to collaborate as members of the faculty in building a culture of research within the departments and the faculty.
Different speakers from the Motheo Education District and community leaders motivated, encouraged, and supported the upcoming teachers.
The Faculty of Education at the Bloemfontein Campus hosted it's annual World of Work Day Event. The event aimed to assist and prepare final year and PGCE students career paths in education, challenges, and rewards in teaching, classroom management strategies for teaching in diverse and multicultural classrooms, educational policy, and leadership.
Hosting the World of Work Day Event is a strategic initiative that supports final-year and PGCE education students in making a smooth and informed transition from academia to the workforce, ensuring they are well-prepared to embark on their teaching careers.
Ms L Mabaso, Thabo Mofutsanyana Education District Director shares district goals and expectations with students. she highlighted that teachers need to understand that education is a societal matter, as our function is to meet with our public and offer them our service with honesty and loyalty. It is essential to start to ensure that we improve our learners' Admission Points Score (APS) so that when they go to institutions of higher learning they don't struggle to get admitted.
The Faculty of Education, Qwaqwa Campus hosted the World of Work Day for the Final year and PGCE students. the event aimed to create career awareness, exposure to potential employers, skill development, industry insights, career planning and guidance, motivation, and confidence building.
Celebrating diversity and resilience at the UFS!
During the recent April graduation season, the UFS celebrated alongside 44 graduates with learning difficulties, visual, mobility, or hearing impairments who received their qualifications.
These students triumphed over extra adversity to earn their degrees, inspiring their peers and educators alike – all with the assistance of the UFS’s Centre for Universal Access and Disability Support (CUADS) within the Division of Student Affairs.
