Bloemfontein-based chef and entrepreneur recognised for preserving indigenous ingredients and empowering women
Chef Hlalefang Mzingwane, an award-winning culinary expert and entrepreneur, is using her Bloemfontein-based company Kitchen360 to advance luxury dining, culinary training, and the preservation of indigenous South African ingredients.
Originally from Rouxville, Mzingwane founded Kitchen360 as a premium food, beverage, and culinary training company. The business provides food and beverage consultancy, luxury private chef experiences, and training programmes, and has grown steadily under her leadership.
Her passion for cooking began in childhood while observing her mother in the kitchen. That early influence led her to transition from home cook to professionally trained chef, building her skills at the Food and Beverage Institute.
Kitchen360 has expanded its team in recent years and placed a strong focus on empowering local women through skills development. Mzingwane’s entrepreneurial work gained national recognition when she won the grand prize at the SAB Foundation Tholoana Enterprise Programme, a boost that accelerated the growth of her business.
Beyond her company, Mzingwane plays an active role in the broader culinary sector. She serves on the committee for the South African Chefs Association, representing the Free State. She also contributed to Roots and Recipes, a high-profile publication developed with the United Nations and FAO that celebrates indigenous South African ingredients, sustainability, and cultural heritage.
Mzingwane is known for redefining luxury dining in the Free State by combining high-end techniques with local and generational African flavours.
