Heinrich Kotze's study focuses on understanding the behaviour of water users, specifically irrigators in the Pongola Impala irrigation scheme. His research aims to assess how climate variability influences farmers' water use decisions and their adaptation strategies within the context of producing sugarcane sustainably amidst water scarcity in South Africa. By shedding light on these dynamics, Heinrich's study seeks to provide insights crucial for designing effective policy frameworks, support programs, and enhancing water use efficiency measures.
Over the past 14 years, our department has been running an Internship Project. With the support of private sector companies, we appoint selected students as interns in our department. As an intern, the student gains valuable working experience by being part of research/consultation projects, and by performing other support functions in the department. Given that we have been able to host over 100 internships through this project since 2010, and the excellent feedback that we get from the participating businesses and students, this project is a major success. We want to sincerely thank every sponsor who has made this project possible.
