Course : BA Governance & Political Transformation
Residence : House Armentum
Portfolio: Prime

Why did you choose to study your course ?

The Reason I chose this course it's because I want to deepen my knowledge and understanding of being the servant of the people and sharp my skills of working with communities to improve the conditions of our people. This degree will also gives me an opportunity to discover my own political beliefs and to see in much greater detail the benefits and disadvantages of the vast array of political ideologies that are present in the world today.

What keeps you motivated to persua your degree ?

It is the fact tha political science matters because we cannot escape it. In political science you are pushed to learn new techniques, languages, and points of view that you never considered before, you taught to be ready to take new and diverse paths intellectually and professionally. You never stop learning. Most importantly this path deals with governance and policy, that will give me an opportunity to take part in shaping the future of this country.

1. My passion for Economics and the Economy at large is what made me choose thus degree, it was evident from highschool, that I would venture in this kind of degree as my interest was always in things that have to do with problem solving, be it in money or just general things at school. I've always been interested in learning more on what the Economy entails and what problem it faces and how it regulates in general. This is my main reason for choosing this course, am passionate and I love it

2. My drive in persuading it definitly lies in the fact that, to me personally failure is not an option but courage is, I strongly believe if you start something you love you would never want to leave it half done. What motivates me the most is my close and loved ones, they see how passionate about it and always motivate me whenever i hit rockbottom. Also well known Economist and financial analyst that follow around Socail keep me motivated all the time.

3. An advise I would give a first year, would be firstly know your purpose, in purpose, know why you are here in the first place, when you know your why a lot of things will fall into place.

Secondly set high personal and academic standards for yourself, and live up to them.

Thirdly in University time management is key, it's a huge environment with a wide variety of things to do, when you manage your time efficiently there will be no room for failure.

Lastly, have fun have fun have fun....don't be too uptight experience things that align with your morals, remember it is an experience of a lifetime you wouldn't want to miss it.

Surname: Sekete
Course: BSc majoring in Genetics and Physiology
Residence name : N. J van Der merwe

1. Why did you choose to study your (course )

BSc wasn’t my first choice to be honest but I told myself that I’m not giving up on my dreams that if I
have to do this course in order to study what I initially wanted to study then I’m going to take this opportunity with both hands and make sure I graduate, who knows? BSc might just open a new world filled with opportunities

2.What keeps you motivated in persuading your degree?

My long term goals, where I want to see myself in 5 years, the field of science itself is very interesting to me so I want to continue learning new things. I want to make myself proud, my parents proud . I want to walk that graduation stage!

3.What message you can give to a first year student about University

Do not compare your path to someone else’s path, work very hard. It’s not all about the destination, Enjoy the journey, the growth, the chance to better your skill set. Try new things, Do not let the Fear of failure discourage you from trying. You are going to experience failure but you need to take it as an
opportunity to learn. Pick yourself up, reflect and move! Don’t forget the reason why you came to varsity, Don’t lose focus.

Surname: Diale
Course:Bsc forensic sciences
Residence name : Villa bravado

1. Why did you choose to study your (course ) ?

- I chose forensic science sciences because I love the challenge that comes with it and also the fact that to some extend i will be able to help some people find closure when needed

2.What keeps you motivated in persuading your degree?

It is the need to help people and the advancement of the study of forensics in our country as a whole and also my dream to become the best forensic analyst in the country

3.What message you can give to a first year student about University ?

University is a place where u can explore and find new qualities about urself, it is a also a platform for you as an individual to get a fresh start out of life and start planning one's future.

One shouldn't come to these place with a stuck up mindset because all it does is delay progression and growth and one will have a lot of missed opportunities, because we can only learn so much from what we studying, but we can get a lesson of a lifetime from life itself.

I chose this course because I love analytic side of economy and also I have not heard of many economists except the one that pave the way in our field of study, but modern day economists are endangered species.

What keeps me motivated is the state of our economy as a country and as a continent, we need more policies that will fit our continent as a whole.

Whether you think you can or you can't you are right. What I'm trying to say is that your thoughts are gold take care of them, dont take everything serious life is already serious, get here and be great because your playing small will not serve the world.

Name: Oratile
Surname: Kotwane
Course: BSocSci Psychology
Residence name: Marjolein

*Why did I choose to study the course I am currently studying?* At first I didn't know why I chose this particular course but as the year went by I received an answer. The reason why I am studying this course is because I believe that God wanted me to study this course in order for me to discover myself so that when he gives me what I really want, really asked for then I know who Oratile truly is. Yes a few would say that why study something that you really don't want nor didn't asked for, and I do agree with them. Everything happens for a reason. Our path of achieving our goals isn't the same. Some are meant to take N1 to get to Cape Town and other are meant to take N2 first then end up on N1 to get to Cape Town.

*What keeps me motivated in persuading my degree?*
After I chose this course I knew I had to get something that would motivate me in order to succeed in this four years of completing my degree. I thought hard about it, and what came in my mind was a car, the Range Rover Evoque. One would probably ask why that specific car? The first time when I saw the car I immediately knew that it's going to be the car I'll be driving in the near future and I saw that it's a perfect fit to make it my motivation.

*What message can I give to a first year about university?*
The transition from high school to university is very big. Being in high school is all about friends, all about impressing peers because you want to fit in. It's all about forgetting who you are, and your self-worth. Now how is university different form being in high school? At university, those you were friends with back in high school are not your friends anymore, although, a few will still remain your friends. Those you were trying to impress are no longer there. Those you wanted to be like, are no longer there. University is a place where you find who you truly are. A place where you know your worth. A place where you humble yourself before others. A place where that allows you to have fun while keeping in mind that you need to keep your grades up and running. University is a place where you can see your goals
