Us Dark Few by Alexis Patton ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I read this in one sitting!
If you give me a dystopian world where the sun is a luxury and everyone survives underground, I’m sold. But Us Dark Few is so much more than a survival story. It’s about finding poetry in the dark and family in the most suffocating places.
Most of the story takes place within the walls of a prison, and you can feel that tension on every page. Watching the fierce, stubborn FMC hold onto her heart and her humanity in a place as brutal as Braderhelm was everything. She is just so authentically herself. The connection between her and the Captain is pure fire, even in the coldest of cells.
The found family trope is the only thing that brings light to such a gritty world. My heart was constantly swinging between heartbreak and hope.
That plot twist at the end, though… I’m still processing. If you need me, I’ll be starting the sequel immediately.
Tropes:
🖤 Enemies to Lovers
🖤 "Who did this to you?" vibes
🖤 Dystopian survival
🖤 Found Family
🖤 Top-tier banter

Phantasma by Kaylie Smith
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I read this book last year, and I still can’t stop thinking about it.
Dark, gothic, romantic vibes. Haunted mansion, deadly trials, ghosts, and temptation everywhere. This book completely consumed me from start to finish, and it quickly became one of my all-time favorites.
Ophelia is such a compelling protagonist. She carries so much on her shoulders, yet she remains strong, sarcastic, and unapologetically herself. I loved her humor and how she always stood up for herself, even when everything was against her.
And Blackwell… he owns my heart.
Flirty, arrogant, charming, infuriating. Perfect.
The banter between them is everything. Sharp, addictive, and filled with tension. Their chemistry? Absolutely undeniable. I loved them both individually, but together they were on another level.
The setting is dark, decadent, and haunting. A shifting mansion full of danger, where every trial feels more brutal than the last. The deadly trials element is done so well, constantly raising the stakes and keeping you on edge.
And that final plot twist? I loved it.
If you’re into:
🕯️ dark fantasy romance
🕯️ forbidden romance
🕯️ deadly trials
🕯️ gothic haunted mansion
🕯️ phantom x necromancer
🕯️ who did this to you
you need to read this.

Returning to the Dark Forces world felt like coming home. This story is a breathtaking ride that you’ll want to devour in one sitting. It’s fast-paced, electric, and bleeding with action, secrets, passion and traumas.
Briar is such a sweet protagonist despite her difficult past. Watching her find her place within the Icarus Squad was incredibly moving; the bond she forms with the team truly warmed my heart. And then there’s Roman... I adored how he and Briar fall in love, accepting each other completely, scars and all.
Also, a huge shout-out to the curated playlist! Roman and I share the same hype song: Titanium by Sia. It fits the vibe of this book perfectly.
Being able to read an ARC of my favorite author’s new book was a dream come true.
