Today, the Texas Woman's University leadership team had the opportunity to meet with City of Denton, TX leadership to share updates on the initiatives happening across our organizations. These conversations are always a great reminder of how important collaboration is and how much we can accomplish when we work together for the good of our community.

Each commencement season leaves me inspired in new ways. This year, I had the privilege of hearing remarkable leaders share their stories with the graduating class of 2026 at Texas Woman's University.

Our speakers brought wisdom shaped by experience: lessons about resilience in moments of uncertainty, the importance of leading with empathy, and the responsibility we each have to create opportunities for others. Their words challenged graduates to remain curious, to embrace change, and to use their education as both a pathway to success and as a force for good in their communities.

Thank you to Monica Paul of the Dallas Sports Commision; Steve Edgar, FACHE, PT, of Medical City Denton; Mary Anne Alhadeff, former President and CEO of KERA–North Texas Public Broadcasting; Larry LeFlore, PhD, Dean Emeritus at Texas Woman’s University; Dr. Matt Richardson, DrPH, MPH, FACHE, Director of Public Health for Denton County; and Jennifer Bartkowski of Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas.

Here is a fun trivia question for you in celebration of Founders Day: Before the bill establishing TWU was finally signed into law in 1901, how many previous legislative sessions had attempted—and failed—to pass it? I'll leave the answer in the comments.

Today, we celebrated 125 years in the best way—birthday party style—with our amazing faculty, staff, and students! 🎉 Happy Birthday, Texas Woman's University.
