How Can We Sing in a Strange Land?
(I Can’t Flow Over This Wack Beat)

The writer of Psalm 137 captures the response of a people in exile after their Babylonian captors demanded a song of them.

They responded, however, not with a song but a statement of protest.

“How can we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land?”

In other words, to carry on with business as usual—as if nothing has changed—would be out of step with the gravity of this moment in history.

No matter your race, political affiliation, or religion:
wack is wack, and evil must be denounced in all its forms.

Fatherhood is one of the greatest honors of my life and the birth of my only son, Wayne Chaney lll, is one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received. However, unlike material gifts, I’ve witnessed (in him) continual growth and a persistent unveiling. Wayne, every year of your life you’ve deepened your love for God, become wiser, demonstrate greater compassion and touched my heart more profoundly.
