Paddle Steamer P.S. Jeanie Deans
A favourite for so many, including myself....the beautifully proportioned and well appointed P.S. Jeanie Deans. Launched from Fairfield Shipbuilding & Eng. Company on 7th April 1931 and sadly retiring from her Clyde service in 1967. Accompanied by original sound of her in action recorded in 1959 (courtesy of Argo Transacord Recordings)

The lovely valley..."There's a Valley nestles neatly neath the shadow of the hills. Its beauty and its splendour with joy my bosom thrills. If you ask the lonely exile, who has left it for a while. To name the spot he loves the best, he'll answer with a smile. It's the Valley, the Lovely Valley, where the Leven flows". Rare footage reveals scenes, places and events from the late 1940's to the early 1950's of The Vale of Leven and its towns and places including Alexandria, Balloch, Renton, Loch Lomond and Bonhill. Excerpts & nostalgic film scenes of the M.V. Countess of Bread...
A few nostalgic scenes and fond memories for many of us of the brave little “Countess of Breadalbane” built by Denny’s of Dumbarton and launched on 7th May, 1936. This courageous little vessel led a varied service changing waters and names several times during her career. Having initially being built for sailings on Loch Awe she was subsequently transferred overland to Loch Fyne on 24th April 1952 to begin her Clyde service for many nostalgic years before being dismantled and transported to Drumkinnon Bay, Balloch in 1982. Here she was renamed once more to “Countess Fiona” and relaunched on 24th May 1982 where she enjoyed several seasons until her last season in 1989 whereupon she was laid up never to sail again. With growing public interest in restoration of “The Maid of the Loch” she was eventually ruthlessly and ignominiously broken up at Drumkinnon Bay in 1999 despite bids for her being received. Enjoy these excerpts and nostalgic scenes of her service on The Clyde and The Big Loch. I hope that you enjoy! Produced by Video History Scotland www.videohistoryscotland.com
