𝐀 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐩𝐞–𝐂𝐊𝐆𝐑 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭

On behalf of all concerned farmers, the Sandveld Ranchers Association (SRA) is proud to have officially handed over the first completed sections of the Lephepe–Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) Cordon Fence Rehabilitation Project to the Government of Botswana.

The handover marks an important milestone in a community-driven initiative aimed at strengthening Botswana’s defences against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and protecting the country’s livestock industry.

During the ceremony, the Assistant Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Hon. Motsamai Motsamai, applauded the farming community for demonstrating that meaningful partnerships between Government and local stakeholders can deliver tangible results. He also encouraged farmers in Zones 10 and 11 to continue safeguarding the rehabilitated fence against vandalism and theft, emphasising that its long-term success depends on collective responsibility.

The project focuses on the rehabilitation of 130 kilometers of the Lephepe–CKGR cordon fence. While 10 kilometers have now been completed and handed over, construction continues on the remaining sections until the full rehabilitation target is achieved.

To date, farmers have raised and contributed P560,000 towards the project. The estimated cost of rehabilitating the 130-kilometer stretch is approximately P4.5 million. Beyond restoring critical disease control infrastructure, the project has also brought skills development opportunities for local volunteers participating in the construction works.

The Sandveld Ranchers Association, on behalf of the farming community, extends its sincere gratitude to the Government of Botswana, farmers, volunteers, sponsors and all partners whose support continues to make this initiative possible. Every contribution brings us closer to a stronger, more resilient livestock sector and a future where Botswana can continue to compete in international export markets.

The project remains ongoing, and we look forward to handing over additional completed sections as work progresses. Together, we are building a stronger first line of defence against Foot and Mouth Disease.

Today marked a proud milestone as the completed portions of the Lephepe–CKGR Fence Rehabilitation Project were handed over to the Government of Botswana.

The Sandveld Ranchers Association (SRA) joins the nation of Botswana and the international community in mourning the passing of the Former President of the Republic of Botswana, His Excellency Dr. Festus Gontebanye Mogae, the Third President of Botswana.

Dr. Mogae will be remembered for his exemplary leadership, humility, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the development and stability of Botswana. His distinguished service to the nation laid a strong foundation for economic growth, good governance, and international respect for Botswana.

As the farming community of the Sandveld, we acknowledge and appreciate the role his leadership played in fostering an environment of peace, stability, and agricultural development, which enabled farming communities across the country to thrive.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and People of Botswana, the Mogae family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his remarkable leadership and service.
