Your skin is the largest organ of your body.

And to keep it glowing, radiant, and healthy, it needs to be nourished with the right natural nutrients. But in today’s world, free radicals, toxins, and pollutants bombard your skin and cause it to age. Most soaps, lotions, and hair products contain unhealthy chemicals, like parabens, that can lead to cancer. And many of the foods you eat work to accelerate the aging process. Dr. Al Sears, M.D.,

Feast On Fats For Younger-Looking Skin - mypureradiance.com 15/04/2024

Feast On Fats For Younger-Looking Skin
omega-3 foods
One of the first things I discuss with new skincare patients at the Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine are the benefits of eating a high-fat diet.

I can see from the condition of their skin whether they do or not. Unfortunately, like most people in the US, many of my patients have been fed the “big fat lie.” And it shows up on their skin.

Eating a low-fat diet causes dry, dull, flaky skin that leads to wrinkles, sagging – and even adult acne. But, when my patients start to add good fats to their diet, something unexpected happens to them. They suddenly have tons more energy. At the same time, they stop having cravings and start to lose weight.

But, the biggest surprise for most of them is how much younger their skin looks.

Their skin feels less dry. It looks firmer and smoother. And it has fewer lines and wrinkles.

I’ve seen the same effects in traditional cultures in Peru, Brazil, and Africa. Saturated fats and tropical oils are a major part of their diet. Middle-aged women look like they’re in their 20s.

And studies confirm what I’ve observed.

In Japan, researchers examined the faces of 716 women. Those who ate more fat had much better skin elasticity. Women who ate more saturated fats also had fewer wrinkles.1
A French study examined almost 3,000 people. Those eating more fat had a much lower risk of skin damage from the sun.2
And U.S. researchers examined skin aging in 4,025 women. Those who ate more of just one healthy fat had a lower risk of developing dry, wrinkled, or sagging skin.3
There are a lot of healthy fats you can choose from. But my favorites are DHA and EPA from calamari oil. These important omega-3s help rejuvenate your skin in three ways.

Fights wrinkles by protecting the skin barrier. The skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin. This barrier is key to dewy, healthy skin. When it loses its ability to hold water and moisture, your skin gets dull, dry, flaky, and wrinkled. But, adding fatty acids to your diet increases skin hydration. Omega-3s help seal in moisture. In one study, women who added omega-3s to their diet had a 39% increase in skin hydration after just three months.4
Guards against sun damage. While 20 minutes of vitamin D-rich sun is good for you, too much causes photoaging at the DNA level. But DHA and EPA reduce your skin’s sensitivity to UV rays.5 In one study, volunteers who added 4 grams of EPA for 12 weeks reduced their likelihood of getting a sunburn by a whopping 136%. The placebo group had no significant protection.6
Helps protect the gut-skin axis. A diet high in processed sugar and carbs alters your gut microbiome, causing tiny holes to form in the gut lining. This lining is the protective barrier that acts like a gatekeeper. When this gatekeeper is weak, bad bacteria and their toxic byproducts enter the bloodstream – and your skin – leading to breakouts.
But omega-3s increase a kind of good bacteria that produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFA). These protective molecules strengthen the gut lining, and keep toxins away from your skin.7

Omega-3 fats are the building blocks of healthy cell membranes. Try eating three or four servings a week of cold-water fatty fish like wild-caught salmon, sardines, mackerel, and anchovies.

But it’s hard to get what you need from food alone. I tell my patients to get at least 600 mg of DHA and 400 mg of EPA from calamari and krill oil every day. And make sure you take them with meals so these omega-3 fats can be digested properly.

Nourish Your Face To Look Young Again

First, feast on fats for younger-looking skin. To get more omega-3s in your meals, try eating three or four servings a week of cold-water fatty fish like wild-caught salmon, sardines, mackerel, and anchovies. Other sources of good fats include grass-fed beef and dairy, pastured eggs, olive oil, walnuts, avocados, and coconut oil.
Then add this unique calamari oil. Calamari, or squid, has one of the highest concentrations of DHA than any oil. Make sure your calamari oil comes from squid that live off the coast of South America in the pure waters of the South Pacific. After the oil is distilled, it has more than 65% DHA4 — the highest concentration of DHA I’ve found yet.
Finally, combine it with krill oil. Squid oil is even better when it’s combined with krill oil. The DHA in krill oil can pe*****te into nearly every cell in your body. A study published in the journal Nutrition Research compared fish oil, krill oil, and olive oil to see which is better absorbed. Those individuals taking olive oil had a 2.9% increase in omega-3. But the other group who took krill oil saw their omega-3s skyrocket by 178%.8

Reboot Your Hunger Hormones - mypureradiance.com 12/04/2024

Reboot Your Hunger Hormones
seaweed salad
My patient, A.B., knows the agony of dieting all too well.

Her weight had yo-yoed repeatedly between 130 pounds and 180 pounds for more than a decade.

Like most people trying to lose weight, A.B. blamed a lack of willpower and her genes for her diet failures – and so did her doctors.

But the real problem was that a lifetime of poor nutrition, along with decades of dieting, had created a serious hormonal malfunction… one that caused her brain to think her body’s fat stores were diminishing – even though the exact opposite was happening.

A.B. was completely unaware she suffered from a condition called leptin resistance – which had knocked two little-known “hunger” hormones, leptin and ghrelin, completely out of balance.

Mainstream doctors and even most nutritionists know almost nothing about the roles of leptin and ghrelin in your body.

Yet leptin resistance is now believed by scientists to be the leading driver of weight gain.1

Ghrelin tells your brain, “I’m hungry, let’s eat.” But leptin is an appetite suppressor.

When you have leptin resistance, levels of ghrelin increase, and leptin signaling decreases. Your brain tells your body, “I’m hungry, let’s eat,” all the time and the signal to stop eating can’t get through.

With leptin resistance, the signals from both leptin and ghrelin get all mixed up. And every time you diet, your body goes into a defensive mode that’s directed toward making you put on weight.

Like all chronic diseases, leptin resistance begins with inflammation. It’s your body’s reaction to the grain-based Western diet of carbohydrates, sugar and starches.

This standard American diet (SAD) has wrecked your metabolism and made your body act in ways nature never intended. Leptin resistance means your brain no longer knows whether it’s hungry or not.

At the Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine, I ask my patients looking to lose weight a series of questions. If they answer “yes” to two or more of the following questions, I recommend getting a leptin test.

Is it difficult for you to lose weight?
When you go on a diet, do you drop a few pounds but still look flabby?
Do you hold onto weight in your mid-section, no matter how hard you try to lose it?
Do you have trouble keeping weight off?
Are you constantly hungry?
Do you crave sugary foods and get “hangry” if you don’t get your fix?
Are you stressed a lot?
Do you have high triglyceride levels?
The first thing I tell patients is to stop being SAD and follow a primal meal plan. Then I teach them about my PACE exercise principle, which teaches your body to stop storing fat. Finally, I tell them about an all-natural supplement that reboots your hunger hormones.

Reboot Your Hunger Hormones

It’s called fucoxanthin and it comes from edible brown seaweed. Fucoxanthin kicks your metabolism into high gear so it actually burns fat.

Scientists call this thermogenesis. It turns on genes that speed up your metabolism.2

Researchers have studied fucoxanthin’s effect on women – and they found it increased fat-burning, even while the women were eating 1,800 calories a day.

In a 16-week clinical study, researchers followed 151 overweight women. Those who took a placebo lost an average of 3 pounds. But those who added the fucoxanthin lost 15 pounds.3

That’s 5 times the weight loss.

The fucoxanthin women lost subcutaneous fat, which you can see in the mirror. But they also lost the deadly visceral fat that wraps around your organs and causes heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.4

Best of all, fucoxanthin prevents new fat cells from forming.5 And it also stops your fat cells from reaching maturity.

Weight-loss Seaweed Soup

Fucoxanthin is found naturally in wakame. This is my favorite seaweed. It has a mild flavor and tastes delicious in soups and salads. It’s also available in dried form that you can sprinkle on your food to add a sweet, salty taste.

A quick, easy way to get fucoxanthin in your diet is with this easy miso soup recipe.

Ingredients:

1 piece dried kombu
1 piece dried wakame
4 dried shiitake mushrooms
1 inch piece fresh ginger, chopped
Tbsp. miso paste
3 cups water
Directions:

Soak kombu, wakame, and mushrooms in 3 cups of water in a saucepan for 30 minutes.
Bring to a boil, then simmer for 30 minutes.
Remove the kombu, wakame and mushrooms from the liquid.
Slice wakame and kombu and return to stock
Cut stems off mushrooms and discard. Slice mushroom caps in half and return to saved liquid.
Simmer on low heat until warmed through.
Add miso. (Never boil miso because that kills its live probiotics.)
If eating seaweed doesn’t appeal to you, you can supplement. I recommend 300 mg every day.

Hollywood's Anti-Aging "Secret" Revealed - mypureradiance.com 08/04/2024

Hollywood’s Anti-Aging “Secret” Revealed

For years, it was one of Hollywood’s best-kept secrets. But now you can access an anti-aging treatment that helps celebrities seemingly age in reverse.

A 100-year-old oxygen therapy that research proves is a powerful skin rejuvenator.

I’m talking about hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or HBOT for short.

There is a long list of celebrities who have been quietly using this treatment to keep their youthful, good looks.

Uma Thurman, Britney Spears, Cameron Diaz, and Jennifer Aniston are all reportedly HBOT fans. Madonna even installed a chamber in her home.

Why Your Skin Needs More Oxygen As You Age

A major reason your skin sags and develops wrinkles, lines, and dark spots is because exposure to our toxic modern environment is suffocating your skin cells.

This causes the tiny capillaries that transport oxygen-carrying red blood cells in your skin to become thicker. This makes them less effective at delivering oxygen to your skin. Without enough oxygen, your skin cells start to die – leading to a further decline in your skin’s oxygen supply.

It’s a never-ending cycle.

But research shows that hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) can rewind the biological clock that causes your skin to show visible signs of aging.

But here’s what most skin care experts don’t realize: A chronic lack of oxygen also prevents stem cell production.

Stem cells are the “replacement” cells you were born with. They’re your body’s master cells. You use them to replace any cell that’s damaged or dying.

When they’re deployed, stem cells heal and regenerate the tissue they’re assigned — including the skin, your body’s biggest organ.

And the most effective way to stimulate the release of stem cells is with HBOT.1

A study out of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine found that after just one HBOT treatment, stem cell concentrations doubled – but after 20 treatments, they increased a staggering 800%.2

But as Israeli researchers proved in a breakthrough study, HBOT also reverses aging at the cellular level by 25 years. It works by increasing telomere length.

You know that I consider telomeres to be the biggest medical breakthrough of our time. Telomeres are the little caps on the end of each strand of DNA that control how your cells age.

Long telomeres lead to better health. Shorter telomeres signal premature aging – including in your skin.

In fact, telomeres are one of the most important factors in determining how well your skin ages. But most skin-care experts don’t know that every time your cells divide, your telomeres get shorter. And this is what accelerates the aging process.

The secret to keeping skin young and vibrant is to slow down this ticking clock. Because when you maintain the length of your telomeres, your skin stays supple, radiant, and youthful.

Your cells have the ability to produce an enzyme that lengthens telomeres. This ability is locked in your DNA. Once its activated, your DNA produces an enzyme called telomerase. The telomerase then rebuilds the length of your telomeres. This little-talked-about skin care breakthrough can take years off your appearance.

Rewind Your Skin’s Aging Clock 25 Years

Fortunately, you can turn on telomerase in your skin cells – and throughout your body – using hyperbaric oxygen therapy.

I use hyperbaric oxygen therapy every day at the Sears Institute for Anti-Aging Medicine to reverse aging and treat disease.

During an HBOT session, you recline comfortably in a pressurized chamber. As you relax, you breathe in 100% oxygen. A typical session lasts about an hour.

But before entering the chamber, I recommend a combination of platelet rich plasma therapy (PRP) and microneedling. This unique skin care protocol dramatically increases the amount of stem cells that reach the skin.

If you want more information about age-reversing HBOT, contact my staff at 561-784-7852. They are happy to explain it all to you.

Replacing This Lost Oil Is The Key To Healthy Hair - mypureradiance.com 05/04/2024

Replacing This Lost Oil Is The Key To Healthy Hair

Not long ago, I talked to you about how supplementing with omega-3 DHA can relieve dry eyes during menopause. But, this essential fatty acid can also eliminate the dry hair that happens with age.

You see, as you get older you lose the natural oils that lubricate your scalp and follicles. This results in dry, dull, brittle hair.

https://mypureradiance.com/replacing-this-lost-oil-is-the-key-to-healthy-hair/

Even worse… it can cause your hair to fall out.

Replacing this lost oil is key to healthy hair. I tell my patients at the Sears Institute for Anti-Aging that a key step to regrowing long locks is by massaging certain follicle-stimulating oils into the scalp every day.

The research backs up the benefits of this type of massage…

In one study, 340 men and women with androgenic alopecia — or male pattern baldness — massaged their scalps twice a day for an average of 15 minutes.1 By the end of the study, 69% of participants said that their alopecia had greatly improved.

A second study found that massaging the scalp resulted in thicker, healthier hair. This research involved nine patients who received a four-minute massage every day. After 24 weeks, every patient reported thicker hair than they had at the start. The oil you choose makes all the difference. Here are two I recommend to patients:

Black cumin seed oil. In a recent study, an herbal hair oil containing Nigella sativa reduced hair fallout by up to 76%.2 Another study found that a combination of coconut oil and black seed oil effectively promote hair growth.3 Nigella sativa works by strengthening the roots of your hair — thanks to its antioxidant properties — giving it the incredible ability to give the appearance of new hair. Look for organic 100% pure black seed oil.
Rosemary oil. I suggest mixing this oil with your black cumin seed oil. Rosemary oil is packed with antioxidants that help combat thinning hair. In a recent study that looked at 100 men with androgenetic alopecia, rosemary oil applied to the scalp showed to be equally as effective as 2% minoxodil (Rogaine®) at increasing hair growth.4
Choose The Right Omega-3 Formula

Topical applications of oil are a great start to addressing hair loss. But, to really “get to the root” of the problem, you need to stimulate hair growth from the inside out.

The research backing up omega-3 is incredible…

A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology followed 120 healthy females who took omega-3 with other antioxidants for six months. By the end of the study:5

89% of women reported a reduction in hair loss
86% reported an improvement in hair diameter
87% reported an improvement in hair density
A second study looked at women with androgenetic alopecia (or male pattern baldness). After supplementing twice a day with an omega-3 formula that included melatonin, a stunning 80% of women saw an increase in hair growth.6

We used to get all the omega-3s we needed for good health and good hair from the food we ate. Unfortunately, modern food practices stripped most omega-3s from our food. Grass-fed meat and wild-caught fish are your best food sources, but it’s almost impossible to get what you need from your diet.

However, I don’t recommend supplementing with fish oil for two reasons…

First, the majority of fish oil comes from polluted waters that contain chemicals like PCBs and heavy metals like mercury. This is worse than not taking a supplement in the first place.

Second, most of the fish oil supplements available today are severely lacking in the unique omega-3 fatty acid that your body needs most. I’m talking about DHA.

I tell my patients to get between 600 mg and 1,000 mg of DHA every day. That’s 1,900% more DHA than over-the-counter fish oil supplements.

Replace Your Fish Oil With THIS

Here’s what I suggest instead of fish oil…

Take this tiny animal oil instead. Krill are shrimp-like animals that don’t live long enough to absorb large amounts of toxins — so they don’t get contaminated. And their omega-3s are stored in phospholipid form instead of triglycerides. This helps it pass through cell membranes better.
And combine it with calamari. But make sure your calamari oil comes from squid (illex argentinus) that live off the coast of South America in the pure waters of the South Pacific.
Always take omega-3 fatty acids with a meal. This allows the fats to be properly digested.

New Research Calls Sunscreen Safety Into Question - mypureradiance.com 03/04/2024

New Research Calls Sunscreen Safety Into Question
lady at the beach
Last month, an independent laboratory found cancer-causing chemicals in 78 of the sun care products they tested.1 Some of them contained up to three times what the FDA allows.

Almost immediately, the sunscreen industry questioned the accuracy of the study. When that didn’t work, they blamed the manufacturing process.

I’ve been telling you for years that commercial sunscreens put you at risk for the skin cancer it’s supposed to protect you from.2 But these lotions also increase your risk of heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, depression, cognitive decline – and even skin wrinkles.3,4,5,6,7

The ingredient found by this lab is one of the most concerning human carcinogens we know of. Even tiny amounts increase your risk of leukemia and other blood disorders by as much as 40%.8

And this isn’t the first time cancer-causing ingredients were detected. The EWG – a nonprofit environmental advocacy group – discovered DNA-damaging chemicals in 75% of the products they tested.

Most people think sunscreens just sit on the surface of the skin.

For years, I’ve been fighting this misperception and revealing the real truth.

These Cancer-Causing Chemicals are Absorbed Through Your Skin

A recent clinical trial funded by the FDA and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association confirms this. Researchers studied the effects of the active ingredients in four popular sunscreens applied topically and found that the chemicals were absorbed into the bloodstream. And at higher concentrations than an established FDA threshold.

Yet, the FDA continues to tell us that sunscreen is “safe” and should be applied often.

But these dangerous ingredients aren’t the only secret the sunscreen industry is hiding. They don’t want you to know that their lotions are causing your skin to age in two ways.

First, by increasing damaging free radicals in your skin.

Free radicals are molecules that do serious damage to DNA and skin cells, causing rapid skin aging as well as skin cancer.

When sunscreen is absorbed into your skin and then exposed to sunlight, it causes a molecular reaction that results in free radicals.

In one study, researchers covered skin with a variety of popular sunscreens and then exposed the skin to UV light.

Then they measured the level of free radicals in the skin and compared the results to what they found when they exposed skin to UV light without sunscreen.

Shockingly, there were fewer free radicals in the skin that had no sunscreen!9 That’s because the ingredients in most sunscreens react with UV light to create free radicals.

But, there’s an even bigger reason to stop slathering sunscreen all over your body… It blocks your vitamin D production by a whopping 98%.

And vitamin D is one of the hormones that controls how fast your skin ages.10

Studies show that women over age 40 with low vitamin D have more facial skin aging than those with adequate vitamin D.11

Researchers in England at King’s College London followed more than 2,000 women. They found that those women with lowest vitamin D levels had the greatest signs of biological and telomere skin aging.

The best way to increase vitamin D is with what I call gentle tanning. This can give you all the vitamin D you need without burning. And without having to use toxic sunscreens.

Gentle tanning allows your body to build up melanin. That’s the pigment that causes skin to tan. It’s your built-in sunscreen.

By slowly developing this basic tan, you can eventually stay in the sun longer without burning.

Sit in the sun for a 15- to 20-minute period. Do this every day, or at least a few times a week. And be sure to expose the parts of your body that are usually covered by clothing. Roll up your sleeves and pant legs. But do wear a hat. Your face gets enough natural sun exposure every day.

Protect Your Skin From The Dark Side Of Sunscreen

But if you’re going to be outdoors for an extended amount of time, here’s what I suggest.

First, choose a zinc oxide-based sunscreen. Unlike chemical sunscreens, zinc oxide sits on top of your skin. It reflects and scatters UV rays and doesn’t pe*****te your skin or accumulate in your bloodstream or fat cells. Apply zinc oxide generously on exposed skin at least 30 minutes before sun exposure. Look for microfine zinc oxide. It’s nearly invisible.
Then, mix in a small amount of cupuaçu butter. Natural flavonoids and antioxidants in this Brazilian rainforest fruit act as a sunscreen. They protect you from UVA and UVB damage. Just make sure your cupuaçu is “cold-pressed.” Heat processing destroys the natural antioxidants.
