I spoke against H. 4763, the “HALO Act,” which would put citizens in jail if they exercise their 1st Amendment rights.

This bill is unnecessary and unconstitutional. The 25 feet standard is arbitrary and it will lead to innocent people getting arrested.

As South Carolina honored Rev. Jesse Jackson, people waited in line for up to an hour and a half to pay their respects.

The University of South Carolina continues to define excellence in academics, athletics, and all that it means to be the flagship institution of this state. Go Gamecocks!

I spoke against a bill that would have banned h**p products, like drinks and gummies, in South Carolina. Why should government infringe on your rights and eliminate local jobs without a compelling reason to do so?

This week in the State House: the State of the State, the Democratic Response, and the Bathroom Bill.

Representative Jermaine Johnson gave the Democratic response to the State of the State and showed the people of South Carolina a vision of where we ought to go.

Meanwhile, Republicans think we ought to go to the toilet — because that’s what we’ve been talking about all week. I’m against the bill because I believe we should respect people who have gone through gender transition, but Republicans want to send men into the women’s restroom. That bill now goes to the Senate.

Welcome to the first of 2026. This week in the State House we talked about two issues that are very important to Republicans: taking away women’s freedom and regulating who can use the bathroom.
