Quick question: What if the thing holding your business back isn't your strategy... it's your psychology?

I spent 20 years as an ER doctor before becoming an entrepreneur mindset coach.
And here's what I've learned after 16 years of helping business owners grow:
Business is 80% psychology, 20% skill.

That means:
• Your pricing fears aren't about market research
• Your perfectionism isn't about quality standards
• Your procrastination isn't about time management

They're protective patterns—I call them "Personal Body Guards"—formed in childhood to keep you safe.
But now they're keeping your business stuck.
The entrepreneur earning $150K who can't break through to $300K?
It's not about tactics. It's about the subconscious blocks running the show.

I started The Entrepreneur's Edge newsletter to share the tools and systems I use with clients to:
✅ Identify which "Body Guards" are blocking your growth
✅ Understand why your brain creates "self-sabotage" (spoiler: it's trying to protect you)
✅ Master your mindset so you can finally scale
✅ Do the internal work that creates external revenue results

This is the stuff no one teaches you in business school. Or at home. Or anywhere.
But it's the difference between working hard and staying stuck vs. working hard and actually breaking through.

When have you noticed a fear pattern and not a lack of skill was keeping you stuck in business?

[Remember yesterday's epic stage freeze? Here's what happened next...]

So I'm standing there after my talk, mortified, avoiding eye contact...
The first person comes up: "Great talk!"
I thought, "They're just being nice."
The second person: "That really inspired me."
Okay... maybe they felt sorry for me?
Then this woman says:
"I LOVED that dramatic pause you put in the middle of your speech. Really made your point hit harder!"
😳 EXCUSE ME, WHAT?!
She thought I PLANNED that moment where I completely blanked?
That terrifying silence where I was dying inside?
She thought it was... intentional?!

Turns out, MOST people didn't even realize I'd screwed up.
But I was 100% convinced everyone saw my failure. 💀
Here's what absolutely blew my mind:
My reality and THEIR reality were completely different.
I was living in my head, listening to my Perfectionist Part tell me:
"You're an idiot"
"Everyone noticed"
"This is humiliating"

Meanwhile, the audience was thinking:
"Good talk"
"I learned something"
"That pause was powerful"

A wise friend once told me:
"Don't believe half of what people tell you, and don't believe three-quarters of what you tell yourself."
THAT hit different after this experience. 😅
That moment taught me something huge:
We all have different "Parts" inside us—like the Perfectionist, the Inner Critic, the Worrier.
They mean well but they’re not seeing the world as it is today. They’re seeing it from a child’s perspective. They're trying to protect us from old fears, but they're actually holding us back.

Since then, I've spent years learning how to recognize these Parts, understand what they're protecting, and choose my True Self instead.
It's changed everything—my speaking, my business, my relationships, my peace of mind.

Want to learn how to do the same?
That's exactly what I teach in my paid newsletter: The Entrepreneur's Edge

Who else has a Perfectionist that tells them stories that aren't true? 🙋‍♀️🙋‍♂️

Ever had one of those moments where you wish the floor would just swallow you up?

I had mine in front of 70 people.
After leaving my medical career, I became a speaker. I wanted to share my message about finding your Dream Career with as many people as possible.

But I had a little problem...
I was a PERFECTIONIST. (Thanks, medical training! 😅)
I needed every single word to be exactly right. Which meant my eyes were glued to my notes the entire time I spoke.

One night, I was delivering a speech at a community center. About 25 minutes in, I got really passionate about a point I was making.
I walked away from the podium to really drive it home.
Then I finished that point.
And suddenly realized...
I was 15 feet from my notes.
And my mind?
COMPLETELY. BLANK.
70 people staring at me.
Pin-drop silence.

I felt the cold sweat. The panic. The shame.
All I could do was awkwardly shuffle back to my podium, desperately flip through my pages trying to find where I left off, and then robotically read the rest of my speech.

But you know what was worse than the actual moment?
What my brain was telling me while I finished that talk:
"Everyone thinks you're an idiot"
"This is SO humiliating"
"You're never speaking again"
"They're all judging you"

My Perfectionist Part and Inner Critic were working overtime.
When it ended, I stayed to answer questions but couldn't even look people in the eye.
The shame was THAT intense.
But then... something happened that changed everything.

(Hint: It completely changed how I view perfectionism and mistakes)

The Business Owner Who Worked Himself to Death (Almost)

Let me tell you about a client I'll call Mike.

Mike came to me exhausted. "Sam, I'm overwhelmed. There's too much work and I can't keep up."

He was working 70+ hour weeks, doing EVERYTHING himself, and it was affecting his marriage and health.

On the surface? Classic overwork problem. Get some help, delegate, right?

But when we dug deeper, here's what we found: Mike was TERRIFIED of spending money. Even though his business was profitable, he had deep insecurities about money that made him want to save every penny.

He wasn't just cheap with his business - he was penny-pinching at home too. His fear was running the show.

Once we worked through those fears and helped him see "spending" as "investing," everything changed.

He hired an assistant. Got some SAAS tools. Set up systems.

The result? He started working LESS and making MORE money. 🤯

Sometimes what looks like "too much work" is really "too much fear."

Have you ever caught yourself doing this? Working harder to avoid spending money, even when investing would actually save you time and make you more?

My Journey from ER Doctor to Mindset Coach

Hey friends! 👋

I want to share why I completely transformed my career after 20+ years in emergency medicine.

Some stats I learned along the way absolutely blew my mind:
😲 60-80% of workplace accidents are caused by STRESS
😲 Up to 1/3 of people visiting their doctor with physical symptoms are actually dealing with mental health issues in disguise
😲 Mental health is the #1 reason for lost productivity worldwide

After becoming Chief of my ER department, I couldn't shake these facts. I spent 2 years retraining and became a mental health counselor and mindset coach for entrepreneurs.

Why entrepreneurs? Because I discovered something fascinating...

Most business owners I meet are working incredibly hard on the WRONG problems. They think they have business problems when they actually have mindset problems.

Over the next few posts, I'm going to share some real stories (names changed, of course) of entrepreneurs who thought they knew what was wrong with their business... until we looked deeper.

Trust me, these stories might make you rethink what's really going on in YOUR business too.

Drop a 👍 if you've ever worked super hard on solving a problem, only to realize later you were focused on the wrong thing entirely!
