Halton Hills Climate Action
Has hosted at least 20 rallies since founding in 2019.
Does Halton Hills really need another polluting gas-fired power plant? We already have one of the largest in Ontario that is also the largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the GTA.
Atura proposes a second plant on the same site. But they need Halton Hills Council to endorse it before they can proceed.
Why would the councillors support it? Ontario should not be investing our money in Fossil Fuel generated electricity when the Federal government intends to ban gas-fired plants in 2035. If built we will still be paying for these idle plants anyway because that is written into the contract! What a waste of our money!
And, solar and wind are now 10 times cheaper than gas to build and operate. Why has the government not asked for proposals for new solar and wind projects? cheaper, cleaner, healthier.

To Sprawl or not to Sprawl
Halton Hills Town Council is currently considering how it will respond to the Province's rollback of the expansion to Georgetown. Stop Sprawl Halton was able to keep the Town's urban boundaries firm for 10 years but now Minister Calandra has written to Mayor Lawlor and asked what she would like to see for the future of Georgetown. The Mayor has committed to consult with the councillors, something the Minister said was optional.
This mess was created by the Province because it arbitrarily added 3000 acres to Georgetown with zero consultation or justification report. Now they encourage the mayors to act in the same manner.
Halton Hills council will make a decision on its position at its Dec. 11th 3pm Council meeting.
In between when the Town was arbitrarily expanded by 3000 acres and when the rollback was announced, the Georgetown Hospital was gifted the 100 acre Walker Wood farm on Trafalgar Road south of 10th Side Road with the caveat that is only to be used for a hospital and medical/health uses.
It is clear that the farm has to be added to the urban boundary and that it must in some way be attached to Georgetown.
It appears that council, without any public input will be able to arbitrarily decide on the size of Georgetown. If you have an opinion on this, you can contact your councillor for a discussion prior to the Dec. 11th meeting. A staff report will be posted on the Town's website a week before the meeting.
Doug Ford government’s sudden reversal on boundary expansion leaves municipalities scrambling Critics are concerned the government has left the door open to adding land for development without public input.

Climate Action Rally May 3 12pm
Student strikes for Climate Action began in the fall of 2018 with 15 year old Greta Thunberg protesting in front of the Swedish Parliament. She has gone on to inspire Student Strikes and Citizen Rallies across the world on all continents. The initiative was first picked up in Canada by 11 year old Sophia Mathur in Sudbury. Laurentian University students have now joined Sophia at monthly Student Strikes.
We are concerned residents of Halton Hills who have been inspired by Greta and Sophia to organize our own local event to demand for Climate Action. We invite everyone to join us, including students of all ages.
Our Rally on Friday May 3 at 12 pm in Dominion Gardens Park has been registered with the Global Strike For Future. #FridaysForFuture. We join 64 (and growing) Climate Action Events across Canada and more in the US, Mexico, and Australia.
Please join us and ask your children if they would like to attend. We have 2 students who will speak at our event. We will also by joined by Mayor Bonnette.
