Top 5 for the State Title!
Saturday night we decided to dust the W42 off and head Bunbury Speedway for the 360/pro sprint State Title.
First time out for Hotlaps the car felt great and it didn’t take long to find the full length of the loud pedal again.
Qualifying we drew pill 18th of 19 cars, pushed off and the car felt like we could put it anywhere. Taking us to P3 overall.
The heats being in with traffic was another thing and we unfortunately moved backwards in our heats putting us in P7 for the feature.
Feature race we quickly settled into 5th for a very fast 25 laps, couple of yellows and a Red saw us having a couple of try’s at 4th but the track was just too fast around the top and the other driver quickly moved back up top.
Certainly a great first night back out in the W42 and cannot thank a lot of these people for there support. Tim, John, Steven, Ian, Tony, Rhys, Damien and Carl.
If you have any photos or videos from the night would be great if you could share them.

BUTCHER STANDS STRONG AFTER SHOOTOUT FRUSTRATION
While the night didn’t go according to plan at the annual Krikke Boys Shootout for young ace, Ben Butcher, the way he salvaged a positive result for his team shouldn’t have gone unnoticed.
Poling a strong time in the hot lap session, was a positive sign. Come lap one the first lap of qualifying, the engine laid over and he pulled the car up quickly into the infield.
On assessment in the pits, there was sufficient damage to the engine in the W42, which would put him out of the proceedings for the rest of the night. Enter the Butcher determination he is becoming well known for.
A quick call to his father Tony, sitting in the crowd, asking him to head back to his property only 15 minutes away to pick up their spare motor. As his dad quickly rushed back to their Baldivis farm, Ben and the crew went about removing the engine out of the car.
By the time the motor had been lifted out, his dad had arrived with the spare to lift in. Understanding that both heat races had passed by, they would start from position 24 on the A Main grid, but Butcher would not be denied a race start.
“The crew did an awesome job getting me out there for the A Main,” he said. “I was gutted at first but then I picked myself up pretty quick and got on the phone to dad.”
On the green light Ben was quick to make two places before the lights came on with a crash on turn two. He took his place back in the field and slowly as the laps turned over, he began making places and choosing the high and low lines of a slick race track to capitalize.
The cliché of it’s not how you get knocked down but how you get back in the fight rang very true come the chequered flag, with Butcher ending the night in 10th place.
A very credible effort and Ben was reasonably happy with the result.
“It was the right thing to do for our team partners,” he said. “I owed it to them to drive the wheels of the car to get it up there.”
Afterwards lamenting that the 360 motor that was installed would be down on power compared to the rest of the field, he drove the car with race smarts to finish well with a top ten place.
Butcher will now assess the remaining two rounds of the Triple Crown before winding up what has been a very trying season for him and the team. With a national championship on the horizon in Perth next season, he will be eyeing a good foundation to build on before it comes around.

Ready to go for the annual Krikke Boys Shootout here at the Perth Motorplex.
BUTCHER EYES SHOOTOUT TOP FIVE
With the 24th annual Krikke Boys Shootout approaching fast this Saturday night, Ben Butcher is almost salivating for another strong finish, particularly after the Big Chap 57 lapper on February 20th.
With the comfort and knowledge they have got a little of their mojo back after a tough season, he is eying off a top five finish and hopes his run of good luck will serve him well come this weekend.
A stellar field of drivers are lining up for one of the most prestigious events on the WA sprintcar racing calendar and Butcher is keen to put his right foot down once again with this also being the first round of the Triple Crown series.
“We’re ready for this weekend,” he smiled. “Maintenance is sorted and the car is ready to go.”
A determined Butcher was also keen to stake his name on the three round series that lies ahead.
“It’s no secret, that our season hasn’t gone to plan,” he said. “This is a chance for us to make up for that and get the car up there, which is the goal, starting with the Shootout this weekend.”
Separating from the Maddington Toyota, the mini series allows for drivers to keep their eyes on a series win over not so many events and Butcher is super keen to make up for lost ground.
“We have a competitive car, I know that,” he said. “And the team knows that, so this weekend, we’ll be going hard.”
Ben is no stranger to running Krikke Boys Shootout events, this will be his 6th outing at the big race, all be it running in Perth and not Bunbury, its traditional home.
He understands what it would mean for his career to even chalk up a podium for the prized event.
“This race has a massive following, particularly here in WA,” he stated. “I’ll be pushing hard to get the car up there, a podium would be awesome.”
With him coming close at the last event, pushing for a podium and having to head infield, he found his way back to 6th from 14th place and the W42 was clearly on song.
His plan is to continue on that path for the remainder of the season and look forward to preparing for season 2021/22.
With a top five competitive car under him, Saturday can’t come soon enough for the youngster who is keen to chase the ultimate glory.
BUTCHER FINISHES DRAMA FILLED RACE IN 6TH PLACE
A smile beamed across a very happy face on Ben Butcher after a strong showing, his best open class result for the season so far at Perth Motorplex on Saturday night.
Continuing from the momentum from his 5th place at the recent WA 360 Sprintcar Championship in Collie last month, Butcher was on fire from the outset, pushing his W42 to the limit to achieve his desired result for the night.
The signs were ominous at the start of the night, as hot laps began, Butcher had polled some of the fastest lap times out of the entire field. Come the time trial, he fired the car up and placed it in the top four in his group as well as polling the overall time of 9th from the 22 car field, his best result of the season for qualifying.
With only one heat race in the format once again, he pushed his way into 3rd place from a 4th place start, which would see him start from 6th place in the gruelling 57 lap A Main, once again his highest starting position for the season.
There was drama at the start of the race and when a car in front of him pulled to the infield, this saw him move up a row, even before a lap had been run. Now from position 4 on the grid, with a super fast race track, Butcher turned it on pushing hard into each corner and easily holding his own, against the toughest in the business.
After couple of dices with other drivers he was still looking in good shape come the compulsory pit stop after 27 laps were chalked down, sitting in 5th place.
Once the cars were pushed off again, Butcher had found his way into 4th place and was still surging forward. Twice on the back straight he diced for third place but just couldn’t get it done.
A heavy crash involving two cars on the back straight on lap 40, presenting Butcher with an issue with his LR tyre before the restart, the bleeder had failed its line to the rim causing the tyre go flat, a quick pit stop in the work area to change the tyre and he was back in the hunt.
Sure enough, on the restart, he pushed out of position 14, to start rounding up the competition. In just five laps he had easily made his way back inside the top ten. Pressing into 9th, passing Dayne Kingshott, solidified his top ten but he wasn’t finished and continued to press his case for his 2nd top five finish in as many races.
Another stoppages and another 2 positions achieved, sitting him in 7th before a last chance pass moved him into 6th place where he finished and was satisfied with how the race had gone.
“I am really happy with the result,” said Butcher rubbing his head after the huge distance. “I was really miffed when I had to come into the work area on lap 40. We were doing so well and the car felt awesome.”
Asked what had made the difference in the last couple of events as to how he has turned his luck around, he was up front about it;
“We’ve really gone back to basics with a lot of it,” he said. “I’m happy to land inside the top ten for this race, especially after the length of it.”
The team will now set themselves up for March 13th and the 24th annual Krikke Boys Shootout, which was cancelled due to the recent covid lockdown.
Butcher will press hard and try his best at having a shot at the three event Triple Crown series. If Saturday night is anything to go by, the Two B Racing team are in with a real chance for sure.
